I just got done dealing with this...ordered something on Thursday, guaranteed by Saturday. By the following wednesday it still wasn't there. They gave me a free month of prime + overnighted me a replacement.

Contacted Prime customer service this morning when a package that was supposed to show up today (ordered Tuesday at 11am) was tracked via Fedex to arrive tomorrow. A quick email response gave me:

quote:
Hello,

I'm sorry your order didn't arrive when you expected it. I completely understand your disappointment. That's definitely not what we want our customers to experience.

I can confirm you that we have shipped the order as per the scheduled time from our fulfillment center. It appears that your package has been delayed in transits by the carrier.

As an online retailer, we rely heavily on the postal system to deliver our orders to our customers and sometimes, despite all our efforts, there can really be unforeseen incidents that are beyond our control. However, we take full responsibility should any item become defective while being delivered and we're happy to refund or replace these items at a cost to ourselves.

I understand that, as a member of Amazon Prime, you expected 2-day delivery for the order you placed while being a part of the membership. Rest assured, we'll do all that we can to keep this from happening again. I'm truly sorry for all the inconvenience we have caused you.
In my experience, late packages arrive not long after the estimated delivery date. Please wait until June 27, 2014, before requesting a refund or replacement.

I understand that waiting for additional days can be frustrating but based on our historical knowledge of delivery times; majority of the packages will reach before a replacement order would.

Please be assured that this is not a typical Amazon.com experience and in no way did we intend for this to happen especially to a Prime member like you. To help make up for the inconvenience, I've extended your Amazon Prime membership by one month. The membership will now DATE.

Further, to compensate the delay, I've requested a refund of $20.00. This refund will appear in the next 2-3 business days as a credit on the original payment method used for the order. Once processed, you'll also be able to see the refund here:

We do want to make sure that you receive your order. If your package does not arrive by the end of the business day on June 27, 2014, please use the link below to contact us so we will take appropriate actions to resolve this issue to your satisfaction.

I confirm tha your order will reach you on June 27, 2014.

One of our aims at Amazon.com is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we haven't met that standard. I'm truly sorry, and I hope you'll give us another chance in the future.

Again, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced in this case. Please accept my sincere apology for this.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best regards,
Prakash K.

First issue I ever had, and they went above and beyond, and all I did was ask about how solid the shipping guarantee is

had a similar experience when a package never showed up...they refunded me the entire cost of the order + $5.00. Amazon is awesome.

My UPS guy comes at like 830, so if USPS gets there earlier, works for me.

Because I'm not familiar, what exactly do they do when they can't keep their guarantee?

Call/chat/email Amazon customer service and let them know that you are a prime member and your prime delivery is late. They will extend your prime membership for a month for free for each late delivery.

Now that they are relying more heavily on USPS, I've had my membership extended 5 times

FedEx OTOH has lost my packages twice, and I've used them probably less than 1/10 as much as the postal service.

this has been my experience. I have had prime for 3 or 4 years now, and only two packages showed up late / didn't show up. both were with fedex.

I have not had this problem with USPS.

One other thing is always check the estimated delivery date, often times some things in an order will be two days and some will be three.

To be fair, I have a feeling the Iowa Postal Service workers are a bit better than New Orleans, or most of LA postal workers.

Its kind of like taking a Walmart hater to a "nice" Walmart in an affluent community. They love the place.

I live in CO now. I am guessing we have higher quality employees here too.

In Iowa, you can put change your mailbox with a letter and they will put your postage on for you. Heck, sometimes they will just do it anyway without the change. but its also common to buy a present for them at christmas. we always did growing up.

This would mean 5 pages and bans on the OT

I've lived in New Orleans for 6 years now. Just bought my first house, which happens to be the first place I have lived where they somewhat consistently pick up mail that I'm mailing out. Every other place I've had to find a drop box to send it out.

Yes, yes it would

This makes me want to drop Amazon Prime. I fricking love it, but hate USPS just as much.

My last few packages have been on time, but not delivered very thoughtfully.

usps is the best option for me in LA. my post guy is always here at noon. ups usually shows up at my place around 6pm and fedex has been at different times which sucks because if I'm waiting home for a delivery i don't know exactly when its coming.

USPS just left my house with an amazon box. Mailman said they only deliver amazon packages on Sundays.

usps is fine.

amazon prime 2 day shipping uses any of the big three shipping companies.

i have had so many packages from fedex not delivered on time.. it is not amazon's fault.. it is the shipping company. amazon is always great about refunding some money if a package is late for me.

Exactly. The other two (fedex) and (ups) can be slow as hell.
