Great to see those leans.
So with sterling told to report to preseason training, my question becomes -
How much can liverpool normally afford to spend in the transfer market without CL and without selling anyone big? I know the new tv deals are going to hit which we have likely already factored into our budget, europa money is better etc. But can we do 40m a year no problem? 50m? Or are we kind of stuck with having to sell sterling at some point here?

Well we will likely find out as I think that's a very likely pairing for at least a few games this year.

I love this time of year.
As far as sterling goes, I think no matter what happens, we have a lot of players we need to offload both for money and to make room for our 25 man PL squad.
I mean we might be able to get away with not selling him this window and just getting some bargain buys to close out (read not Benteke) because we haven't spent a ton of money yet this window, but I just don't see that happening if we want a half decent striker and still want to upgrade at some other positions (left back and midfielder)
So I see is trying to hold firm at the £50m asking price, but I think we're ready to sell, at the very least not to have to deal with his agent anymore

I'm just a dumb arse Marine grunt so I need some help with something. I keep reading that we are on the verge of signing Benteke from numerous outlets and some say it's imminent. The last time I checked Villa wasn't budging from 32.5 and we were definitely not paying that sum. I've also heard we might throw a couple of players in to sweeten the deal but it doesn't add up. Do you think we blink and actually pay that amount for CB? Or does Villa blink and come down?

I really don't think we drop that amount on him, nor do I think he's worth it. But I'm actually getting more and more excited about the possibility of him coming here, after reading and watching stuff on him. I was relatively bummed about him being our striker signing at first, but he's growing on me.
This thread on reddit's got some great stuff on him. The guy can bring a lot to the table and could be a monster.

Some think that since Villa has been staunch on their asking price and that it seems more and more people are saying the deal will be done means to me that both sides are willing to give a little bit to make it happen. Liverpool will blow cash and Villa want the money.
I've heard a lot of scenarios but it seems Liverpool are offering players + cash. Never works out but seems like cash + Borini and Balotelli is one I've heard a lot about.

Being positive about it, at least Benteke is more mobile than Lambert and can play better as a lone striker than Balotelli, but I'm still not a big fan. He's not a bad player, just doesn't fit our team, and when Balo or Lambert were in, we didn't adapt well to their style.
And at that price tag, I still think we're better off looking elsewhere

If we get Benteke (which Im convinced we will), I think there will be compromises on both sides... I'm guessing ~25mm.. maybe some add-ons..
