Unfortunately for Liverpool, we have only two more games against top 6 sides. It's hard to make the top 4 when you can't count on easy points.

Exactly. We do so much better against teams that try to score against us. The mid/bottom table clubs that park the bus are what's killing us.

So just hearing that Klopps 2 Januarys are 2 of the worst 3 Januarys since 1992.
I think the combination of League Cup semis, crowded league fixture in late December, and FA cup starting, plus no winter break, is something he's struggling to figure out. We can't even blame it entirely on the fixtures since he's played the kids during the FA cup games both years.

So, lot of reports linking us to Gotze again... His return to Dortmund hasn't gone that well.. Honestly or Plan B last summer, in Mane, couldn't have worked out better...
What say you? Take a chance on him or has that ship sailed and move on?

I would say no to Gotze - just that he seems to be, for whatever reason, on the downward side of his trajectory. This is several sub par years in a row for him.
I'd prefer Brandt (though Brandt is more of the Mane type of player in our line-up) as the option we put money towards.
If we got Gotze, the price (transfer fee and wage) would have to be a bargain on our side to offset the risk.
Plus, I don't exactly see where Gotze would play in our 4-3-3 - replace Lallana as the higher up of the midfield? Or replace Cou or Firmino - I have a hard time seeing that with his form the last two years. Unless he's happy with a bench role?

Part of me says the same... move on..
If it came down to Brandt or Gotze, I'd def choose Brandt (though I see him more of a threat to take Lallana's spot in our current system, long term - very versatile)
For the price of £20mm though, I'd be willing to take a chance... for the exact reason that we wouldn't need him to come in and start... He is still young and has all the tools... and Klopp knows him well and could maybe get the best out of him.. I mean these days, £20mm gets you a teenage unknown..
Also, If we can get a starting 11 quality CF... Klopp going back to his 4231 is not out of the question...
All that said... he wouldn't be a player I would actively target, if it was up to me... just bored speculation with this layoff...

Since they play 2 different positions, I say we use all that profit we've been making and sign both!
Don't understand not wanting Gotze. Its not like he's on the downside of his career... he's only 24. I have no doubt Klopp could rehabilitate him just fine. And its not like we don't NEED more quality depth on this team.
If Dortmund want 20M for him? Make that purchase, Kloppo.

i wouldn't be opposed... though they play very similar positions... I agree we need the depth, but my guess would be one is enough...
Like you said, at 24, if we got him over Brandt... its not like we are getting someone on the downside..

Long time LFC fan and lurker to the soccer board - just dropping in to say I'm pretty pumped Adam Lallana signed that extension! Is it too early to already be excited about the 17-18 season?

Even with wins over Arsenal and Man City plus a lot of help, the league trophy is pretty much out of reach at this point. Praying for quite a few slips from Chelsea, Man City, Tottenham, and Aresenal.

Widespread injuries to key players on the squads ahead of us is the only hope for the league. I'm just hoping for top 4. We belong in the champions league, that's the sort of competition we can make a deep run in. The games with Dortmund last year being a prime example, BvB was playing like a top 5 side in the world at that point. Leicester is shite and they're in the final 16. We have got to finish top 4 this year. Staying healthy is going to be the only way to do it. Our depth is shite but our preferred lineup is as good as anyone's

Ready for this team to be back on the pitch tomorrow...
Posted on 2/26/17 at 1:19 pm to Tigerfan7218
seems like forever since we played...
Posted on 2/26/17 at 3:29 pm to TFTC
Yeah it really does... Not digging the lack of competitions right now (even though it's probably a good thing for our league goals).
Posted on 2/26/17 at 3:46 pm to Tigerfan7218
Would you take a top 4 finish at this point....I'm going with a strong yes. Champions league will help us recruit over the summer and set up us strong for a title run next year
Posted on 2/26/17 at 3:47 pm to Tmcgin
of course, thats the only thing we're playing for at this point
Posted on 2/26/17 at 4:44 pm to TFTC
Yeah... Let's hope we get there

Obviously I want CL football next year, but count me in for buying into the long term Klopp plan. If we miss out, I'll live as long as we continue to get better
