Agreed. They beat Netherlands twice in qualifying - who is questionably a better team and has less of a habit of choking in early tournaments. They beat Turkey and Czech Republic in qualifying as well. Iceland has proven they can beat quality teams + England gonna England = recipe for Iceland win.

It's an upset on stature, not form. England's are one of the 10 biggest football countries, a marquee nation. Iceland have never qualified for a tournament. There were more people living in the largest borough of London, which has 26 boroughs, than in all of Iceland.

Then it's not really an upset to me. Form/ability is what matters. Never did I consider Iceland winning all that far-fetched.

wouldn't just several of them not having full time soccer careers be more than any other country at the Euro championships though?

Well if you look at the team list, you'll see most of them play at first division teams around Europe. Maybe some idiotic commentator said it, but it's not true.

How many times did Kane come collect the ball at midfield? No service. Starting Sterling was a mistake. And starting Rooney as a deep central midfielder was a mistake.

Needed a Henderson or a Barkley in middle of field.

I missed the first half hour of the second half, but from what I saw, there was just no formation, no understanding and no plan. No one came in close from the middle, so every time the ball was on a flank, it either had to go forward or be dribbled inside. In the system england were playing, there should always have been one vertical pass and one lateral pass. That was disjointed and every player looked isolated.

4-3-3 was not the way to go. Does anyone in EPL play a 4-3-3?

I can't imagine who they will get. There isn't an English manager who has been setting the world on fire or anything. They will probably go with an also-ran.

I wasn't able to watch this game. Would it be worth watching the full game just to hear the commentary, or should I just watch the highlights.

It's pretty much Wenger or bust.

Here are the ten suggestions from the torygraph (decent sports newspaper)

Southgate, Neville, Pardew (seriously, pardew?), Howe, Allardyce, Moyes, Rodgers, Dyche and Wenger.

ETA: and the other Neville.

If you enjoy watching England fail, this was a whirlwind 90 minutes.

How long have you been living in England? The 2010 post mortem was rough, England were beaten by a decent German team. This is going to be something else.

I watched that 2010 Germany/England game in a pub near Oxford. The people flooding out into the streets after the game were PISSED (in both senses of the word). I am scared to think how the country will react to this loss.

First 20 minutes are worth watching. The rest was England failing to create anything.

Sterling was the bright spark of the first half, I don't know why Walker didn't take on the Lb once hit te byline and fire it across

The only positive thing on Hodgsons reign is its the transition from the failed golden generation to the new in Kane, Alli, Dier etc.
