it's a similar mindset

and it's no shock why hipsters HAVE started to be big, open soccer fans (well that and the scarves)

First of all the "France" thread was a joke. It's a long running joke in Europe that France fields and "all African team". That just went way over your head. And I'm the furthest thing from a hipster.

I think everyone got it, they just didn't like it.

Christ you are an idiot.

Wha? It's a known fact that France mines African countries for iron ore, gold, and soccer talent.

Your defense of your "joke."

And expressing scorn at new fans is pretty much the definition of soccer hipsterism.

Very fair. However when you're at a bar and the person next to you says this sport is "dumb because they don't stop the clock" or have "unlimited subs and force teams to play with 10 men when a guy fouls out" is a bit annoying. Just enjoy it for what it is. I'm not a soccer snob, I don't walk around Round Rock in a Messi jersey like these suburban dads.

The same exact thing goes on for baseball, football, etc. I actually don't care to go to many ball games in person b/c of it. I'll bring my boys to a few, but I don't care to listen to drunk arm chair QBs, or the guy who complains we don't steal, then complains when they steal and get thrown out. But I just ignore it and watch the game. I'm not there for them and what they think or say doesn't change the game nor what I enjoy about it. If a person truly wants to learn something about the game that they don't understand, then help them out. Don't put them off. People that have been following soccer longer than others notice it more with that sport, but it happens in all sports.

I'm sure that will go over well, with the baseball fans trying to enjoy the world series

college baseball fans hate the CWS now

I think fans should be able to talk about what they like and don't like about sports they watch...which is normal.

I'll make sure to do that during the next world series thread on the MSB... ad nauseum

If people have been doing this then I have been mistaken.

The title of this thread is "I love all these new soccer fans". Where did I heap scorn onto anyone? Speaking of idiots, you obviously lack reading comprehension skills.

Soccer snobs.....hahahaha

Don't you love how soccer fans pretend it's some sort of rocket science sport that the rest of us couldn't possibly understand? Or that sensible rule changes are stupid and the people who propose them for consideration are stupid not because they wouldn't work but merely because they're not traditional?

I sincerely want a new sport to love. These summers without football are brutally long. Soccer would be great with just a few tweaks to make it a 3-2 sport with sensible refereeing and timekeeping, instead of a 1-0 sport that relies too much on refereeing and set pieces for outcomes.

I'm sorry Ms. Cleo. Funny you trying to call me out because you're the biggest soccer snob on the Soccer Boards. And I do love all these fans, that's what our team needs and that's what makes the WC fun when the whole nation is involved like in Europe not the ambivalence of the last few World Cups.

Nope, there are quite a few of you high-horse riding pretentious soccer fans. Too many IMO.

I heard one guy say that red cards should have that player sent off but still allow 11 men
This is already a rule at some levels of soccer. There are hard reds and soft reds, soft allowing a replacement player to come on.

PS - I think the soft red was discontinued in high school soccer a year or two ago. My point being the suggestion is not that outlandish imho.

It is a little offensive to hear someone else say that a sport you love should change so that it is more entertaining for them. Just saying.

I kind of like it.. Granted i wish the stoppage time more adequately reflected that stoppages as i think stoppage time is too little 90% of the time

That has always been my problem with it, the stalling and the lost competition, especially when a goal is scored in stoppage time.

yep, its reverse elitism... A sport that is loved the world over should be changed so I can enjoy something between the real sports season...

Why is soccer the only one of the second-tier sports that doesn't welcome new fans/interest?

Golf, Tennis, Lacrosse, etc. all are thrilled when there's more interest.
