At age 32, his options will be very limited.

I know they really want non-Mexicans to follow the team. This could be their one big move.

I'm with you Sheep. I don't get the outrage.

Honestly, don't see how this hurts Dempsey...and it only can help MLS. Seeing people who hate this deal are the same ones who always whine about how much they wish our domestic league was a bigger deal. Which is it, fellas?

I'm starting to really like this move. Sure, I would love for Deuce to play tougher competition leading up to the WC. However, he's going to get a ton of minutes for Seattle. This really helps the MLS. Also, HE WILL BE IN MIDSEASON FORM FOR THE WC!

I'd rather see the best players play in the best leagues for the best teams, even if it's to the detriment of the MLS for the next 5 years. The progression of MLS has been excellent. I actually don't like the 4 expansion teams idea and I doubt most teams could afford to make a Dempsey type of deal right now.
Keeping the best youngsters in MLS until they are ready to get big money abroad, getting national team starters from CONCACAF teams other than the US and Mexico, and a few players from the USMNT top 23 is a great model for the league. Then add a couple of aging players who can still play well, so we're not just like Qatar or whatever.
If MLS was going to make a move for a player after the World Cup, I would have loved for Howard to come over here, along with Cherundolo, Onyewu, and perhaps Beasley. But not one of our 4-5 elite non-Germans.

I'm thinking that's his end game. He laid the ground so he can probably just head over to Fulham, a la Henry and arsenal, and keep his skills sharp in the off season.

I'm a bit conflicted about the move, but at this point we (as national team fans) just need to look at 2014 and this in no way hurts him for Brazil. Development is kind of over for a guy like Dempsey, it's just about staying sharp and match fit, and he'll be a guaranteed starter for Seattle.
This team has looked pretty good relying on some MLS guys, it's not like its a killer for him for 2014. Maybe the opposite (compared to being a spot starter/sub at Tottenham).

Told you frickers

From Ives, only teams in EPL that wanted Dempsey were lower table and he was not interested.

In all fairness, your source was a season ticket holder. That's generally not a very reputable source.

Better off to go to the MLS then and have a chance to win something.

Yep. At first, I was just in shock mostly because it didn't seem like there was any chance of this happening.
I do love this move though, as an MLS fan, for many reasons:
1) I can fully hate Tottenham now
2) An elite American talent comes back to MLS and will surely improve the league in many facets
3) Deuce will be in midseason form for the WC
4) He will be getting regular playing time for a top team
5) SKC won't face him this regular season

I'm interested in how LA will respond to this. POR & VAN are the natural rivals, but I don't see them getting into a spending war.
LA still has that DP slot. They're good enough to win the cup without another move, but I wonder if they'll try to make a splash in the few days left in the window.
Living in the Seattle area, I'm f'ing stoked to see Dempsey coming here. Martins, EJ, and Deuce up top is quite an attacking crew.

I should mention, I've been to a couple SKC games, and we are signing Didier Drogba. Should be ready to play by next week.
This is how it works, right?

I guess we can stop asking ourselves why he'd wanna move back to MLS... Largest transfer fee and base salary in MLS history!
Good on ya deuce

The West will no doubt be stacked this year. The East needs to step it up. New York has talent but they seem to underachieve every year. SKC and Houston are solid but could they beat a team from the West in the final?

Haven't read the thread.
Anyone else love this move?
Demspey's done wonders for Americans abroad. Time to come home and play in front of the nation's best fans and continue the league's excellent upward trajectory.

Totally love it. I'm considering buying a jersey for the first time in my life.
The percentage of USMNT players in MLS - and important players - continues to rise.
