Kante? Thats one attribute Ive never seen him display regularly... he likes to run with the ball after he wins it (which is what he excels at)..

It's not even humanly possible for him to be worse passing the ball than Ramires.

Does this mean we sell Mikel or Matic now?

Nahhhh. If anything, Oscar is gone. Matic and Kante are about to do so much work.

gotcha! I think he's a fantastic player, but seems to excel in the counter attacking style.. Will be interested to see how he fits in Conte's Chelsea..

How do Matic and Kante get on the pitch at the same time?

What's our formation look like now...

424 right now in this friendly. two holding mids.

i think Conte is gonna take his time in experimenting and finding what system fits tho. i dont expect formations to be as staic as they were under jose.

Any winger in our youth setup is a better outside back than Ivanovic. He needs to be sold with a quickness

IDK if anybody watched the friendly, but it was just generally crap. Just pretty awful all-around. Not really any standout performer IMO. You could tell this was more or less a training exercise for Chelsea, and Rapid has already played a few games. They looked much sharper and much fitter. I don't think it's anything to be alarmed about because it was the first game back and so many regulars weren't there. Hopefully we see improvement when the team comes stateside.

Saw the first half. Not much to take away. Rusty and confused. A handful of those guys prob wont be around for the season anyway.

Liked the possibilities of that formation though. Lots of width and space for runs behind the defense.

I watched the whole game, lucky me.

It was ugly and disjointed but we've only been in "camp" for a few days and it was our first friendly of the season. Rapid was playing their seventh and that certainly showed.

If you watched the game and weren't impressed with Moses I'd have to ask why. He was a force up the left. Willian was full of running but didn't accomplish a ton.

Our first half midfielders were Matic and Mikel. They can both do a job but that job isn't creating chances. I was very unimpressed with the defense overall. I'd be a happy man if Ivanovic never plus fullback again.

Second half subs were fun and I thought Chalobah was as good as Loftus Cheek was bad in the first half. So that's probably a wash overall. Plus, if I'm Miazga I have to wonder about my future if I can't get on the field ahead of Papy.

Overall it would have been nice to win but no panic yet.

He was a stud last preseason too. Dont remember how his loan went last year tho.

Man, I'm over Moses. It doesn't matter how well he plays. He'll probably be out on loan until his contract expires. He couldn't have played better last preseason and he still wasn't even a squad player.

Conte has said that Cuadrado is staying part of the team. We are stacked at winger so I am interested on how he gets them on the field at the same time.

I have Hazard centrally here but I expect he will have freedom to go anywhere.

I expect to see a lot of different combinations of Willian / Pedro / Cuadrado / Kennedy.

I think Willian will be a mainstay and the other will be flexible.

I expect Kante to secure a starting spot and Matic to be a common sub when we want to park the bus.

Zouma seems like a very important player given his athleticism. Hope he is fully recovered this year.

In many ways, this is a useless exercise because I think we will see a ton of combinations early on.

That lineup is good except I would have Matic for Fabregas. I feel like two guys in the center of midfield, one of them being Fabregas, would lead to disaster with three at the back.

Azpilicueta as a CB?

Is this a Shane4989 alter?

None of us are saying it's the best option. Heck, it might not work. If Conte is playing three at the back, the outside backs just need to have a lot of pace. Terry, Ivanovic and Cahill are the opposite of fast. We just want to try it to see.

Dave is our best defender but not the best going forward. We could try to slot him at LWB or RWB but he may be better by adding athleticism to a back three.

Cesc is a bit of a problem. hes too slow and worthless in defense to play in a two man midfield and not good enough for the "pirlo" role. his best fit is at the tip of a 433 midfield or a 10 in a 424 dropping deep to get the ball and start the offense.

with the amount of work Conte seems to ask from his players, i could see RLC and Oscar really pushing Cesc for mins if he struggles early on. he just doesnt seem like a Conte-type of player to me. but with all the other needs in the backline, shopping for a replacement might not be possible this window.

Matic on the field is a disaster anywhere. Just as slow and lazy as Cesc with none of the passing ability.

He might have been the worst soccer player I've ever seen last season.

On a related note, why are we not trying offload any of the considerable dead weight on our squad while they may still have some value?

He had a poor season. He'll be fine this year. Watch.

The only 'disaster' in the squad is Ivanovic. He's not good enough to play MLS.
