Chelsea 16/17 Season Long Thread | Farewell JT Edition

What do you do when you're coming off your worst season in 20 years? Not much, apparently. Just sit around on your hands and hope things improve.
"We don't want to be too active in the transfer market, or we might end up climbing all the way up into a Europa League spot," said one source inside the club. "Why scramble to make quality signings when you can field a team of the same guys, many of whom quit on the old gaffer, the badge and the fans, again this season."
The source added Chelsea are aiming to achieve the level of success the other clubs in London, like West Ham, are currently enjoying.
Highlights of last season
Things to look forward to

Canal + confirm: Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea for €40m. Eclipses Marseille's biggest ever sale (Drogba to Chelsea €37.5m).

Overall not sure if that's a good thing, but with the level he'll be slaying lucky him.

Ugh. I'm finally getting over last season. Ready to see what changes we make and how we field a 3-5-2.
Is Michy signing confirmed? Thought he was headed to Palace

I want Chelsea to avoid relegation.

Chelsea offered more money at the last second. It's not confirmed, but the Sky Italia dudes reported. Di Marzio/Romano and Co. are rarely wrong. They say he's having a medical soon. I think the Guardian reported he was getting to leave the Belgium squad temporarily for one. Not sure about that, though. Big game on Friday.
ETA: I haven't seen him play enough to have a strong opinion. I've been impressed with what I've seen considering he's still young. He had a pretty good return for Marseille. Hopefully our comrade Mr. P can give us a good scouting report.
Here's a link to a column in the Washington Post with some impressive numbers.

Looks like it's all but final. I'm about it, he seems like a solid young talent.
Also saw today that Ake is going to Bournemouth. Let the loan train begin

I'm totally on board with this...especially if we are playing a two striker front. He brings something very different than Costa to the squad.

I thought he had a really good season last year at Watford. If Baba is on the way out, IDK why Ake can't get a chance.

Six youngsters signed their first professional contracts today. Can't wait for none of them to ever get a chance in the first team.

So our offseason hinges on the signing of Michy?

No. We need about 4 more players. Signing just Michy would be a spectacular failure that should cost Emenalo his job.

Yeah I think we'll make 2-4 more signings, and bring back some guys on loan. Namely Cuadrado since he has experience with Conte.
I'm very, very curious to see what our 3-5-2 looks like....

One of my favorite formations. I'm excited to see a big PL team potentially use it this season.

I think Conte's could work with the right personnel. But Chelsea are about 3 or 4 quality signings away from being able to pull it off.
ETA: I also don't know what it'll mean on the wings. I don't know how he plans to use Hazard/Willian/Pedro

I'm a fan of l'OM.
Batshuayi is more functional than spectacular, but managed to find space and opportunities in L1. It might take him a bit to get used to the tighter coverage and smaller windows in the EPL, but I think he'll adjust and thrive pretty quickly.
