Stupid argument requires no retort.

Don't act shocked. Soccer is a counterculture sport in America.

See, we can't have an honest convo about an obvious and understood fact without the soccer folks bristling up about it.

You can't be serious. For the most part, soccer is the sport of suburban white kids whose teams and programs are supported by their relatively affluent parents who work in large metro areas.

Soccer is the American mainstream. Sorry, but you are wrong.

Argument by gif. Pretty shallow.

Care to explain? I put forward a good case. The average American's kids play soccer.

I think you can say USNMT in the WC is IN the mainstream, but not much more than that.

I meant that soccer in ingrained in the daily lives of the typical American. That is more true than it is for football or basketball.

I'm not here to troll or start an argument, but the average American 10 year old is not solely playing soccer.

The average American 10 year old plays two things for sure:

Soccer and machine pitch.

How is what I said NOT true? What is the demographic profile of the average American? Where do they live? What sports do their kids play?

So because you think a suburban, middle-class, white family with kids from 6-12 is more than 50% likely to have them playing soccer, then it's "ingrained in the lives of a typical American"?

Those kids play soccer, yes. I'm those kids.

But the kids that go to pubs at odd hours to watch foreign matches and look disdainfully at people who don't know anything about the sides they support, those people are not mainstream. Those are kids who didn't get invited to birthday parties.

What you just described isn't the typical soccer fan.

I said they're not mainstream, so I agree.

In truth, the typical soccer fan in the US are people like me, who watch WC qualifying and WC, may pay attention to an MLS team from time to time. That may not rise to the level of support you guys consider to be a "fan," but it certainly is the more common form in America.
