There are only 10,000 votes left in the state. This is a run-off.

McDaniel spoke to his supporters and is now leaving the watch party and going home for the night.
Thad declined talking to anyone tonight.

While McDaniel won the 29 and under vote, it is very unusual Cochran won both Starkville and Oxford by a 2:1 ratio.

Thad had a glass of warm milk, said 'nite to his sweetie, and went to bed at 8 pm as per usual.

In Alabama years ago post George Wallace, being the Democratic nominee made you a shoo in for the governor's chair.
You did not have to identify what party you were affiliated with to vote in the primaries.
Charlie Graddick ran against Bill Baxley, who was and is still a big time trial lawyer. Graddick was a lawyer too, but Baxley had the party's nod.
Graddick encouraged crossover votes, and won the elction, which was tantamount as I said to being elected Governor.Baxley and the boys in Montgomery said oh hell no the election was illegal. They filed suit and won. Here's the amazing thing. Since they could not actually tell who the Democrats and the Republicans were that voted, they took A POLL and awarded the nomination to Baxley.
But the story does not end there. The outrage among the people of Alabama was so widespread that come the general election they voted in the Republican,Guy Hunt. Hunt had no chance in hell and was just a token candidate, except the people were so riled that anyone could have beaten Baxley.
The reason I bring this up is I am not sure what court this was heard in,State or Federal. If it were Federal there is precedent to take crossover votes off of vote totals.

That will not happen. There is nothing to prove if someone is a D or R.
