I guess Mississippi doesn't want Federal (borrowed from the Chinese or printed) money anymore. I betcha there are 49 states that will gladly take it.

I took the liberty to clarify that quote, gn...as I think McDaniel/responsible Americans would view the whole matter.

And the establishment doesn't see that this kinda of thinking is why we have a $17 trillion dollar debt

Before the tea party this is how Republicans campaigned and won races. By bragging about how much federal money and pork they were able to bring to their state/district.

They can't do that anymore. Now they have to run way to the right of their own record and pretend to be uncompromising hardline tea party conservatives in their campaigns, even though they aren't, and hope enough people fall for the B.S. It worked for McConnell.

The GOP Establishment loves big government, and wants to go back to those days where they could run on how much pork they were able to get.

It's going to be interesting to see what strategy McDaniel takes this week. I would suggest that he be conciliatory toward the Cochran voters and invite them to join the winning team. After all he needs these voters during the general election.

The most interesting component of the run-off to me will be to see whether or not the PACS and Chamber of Commerce continue to give monetary support to Cochran.

I think most believed, including myself, that Cochran would likely enjoy a fairly comfortable win last night.

With the Tea Party record in run-offs being strong, it will be interesting to see if those PACs decide to save their money for the late summer and fall for seats that will be net gains in the Senate and House.

I think McDaniel probably wins this thing now.

18000 absentee ballots to count today.

McDaniel needs about 80% to avoid runoff, so I suspect we are going to do this again in three weeks.

Remember, can't vote in the runoff if you didn't vote in the primary.

Spending money against fellow Republicans is not smart IMO. If I remember correctly the Cochran campaign spent $8 million against McDaniel so far and most of that money coming from the Washington GOP. That ridiculous. It's time for Washington establishment and the Cochran voters to humble up and save their energy and resources for the general election in November.

In the general Mississippi won't be close and McDaniel will be the new senator. The GOP needs to spend smarter on other races. For example ousting Landreiu. She is going to be terribly difficult to beat and the GOP needs to support Cassidy rather than throwing money and resources down the drain in a primary fight in Mississippi.

I think Thad is being used by Haley Barbour and his ilk. I don't think he even wanted to run. This is represented by the fact he didn't even address his own gathering last night. I think he is in poor health and only did this to appease an ally of the past in Haley Barbour.

Oh, wow.

I didn't know about that rule.

You have to believe the McDaniel voters will be much more energized for the runoff.

Thad has been in office for 41 years and Mississippi is dead last in everything. All that federal aid is going to such great use. I'm fine with Mississippi getting a responsible amount of federal aid, but let's get a candidate in office that will put it in the right hands so we aren't wasting the tax dollars generated by other states.

ETA: generated by China, too. Would hate to leave the out

Does anybody know how I can vote in three weeks? Voted for Chris in the primary. Will be on Perdido Key in 3 weeks.

Do they do absentee in run offs and who would I call?

Voted in Brookhaven.

You can vote in run-off if you didn't vote in primary. You just can't cross party lines.
