Republican 99.6% Reporting

C. McDaniel
49.6%
150,917

T. Cochran (i)
48.8%
148,544

It is officially a run-off situation. If McDaniel was to carry 90% of the remaining votes, he cannot break the 50% majority.

Frick a runoff.

Of course Thad, from the way he looks could be dead by the time the runoff gets here.

The key question is who will Thomas Carey support.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Thad at 64% in Lafayette county. I voted for neither and I'm not sure who Iwant to win. I'd much rather have Thad than McDaniel, but McDaniel gives Travis a shot.

Childers would be a better choice than Thad. I take it you don't follow politics much at all?

Wouldn't surprise me if Cochran steps out. I would think his chances in the runoff are long at best.

Maybe. I'm not sure. I think mainstream GOPers wouldn't vote for Childers just to keep McDaniel out of office, but I dunno. Maybe it would energize otherwise apathetic democrats?

An image of Weekend at Bernie's popped into my head this morning thinking of Thad Cochran. Thad being Bernie and the MS establishment GOP being Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman.

That's great and true. It happens over and over again in both parties. We need new blood in Washington. I voted for McDaniel yesterday.

Fox is showing a 50% number for McDaniel; if the 50 holds, does that mean no runoff?

Politico is showing the following:

Republican 99.5% Reporting

C. McDaniel
49.6%
151,842

T. Cochran (i)
48.9%
149,714

T. Carey
1.6%
4,749

I pretty sure Politico is right, unless Fox has the last 0.5%.

I love the new word that has been coined for establishment candidates:

Establishmentarian

And I'm still smiling at the Weekend at Bernie's reference. This has been a good thread to begin my day with.
