Exactly as stated in the NFL's rulebook. How is this so difficult to understand?

There's nothing about it in the rulebook

Request a meeting with the POTUS to discuss the issues you are protesting over. Trump had numerous people go to Trump Tower during the transition period that you'd never think he'd be talking with (ie, Romney, Rahm Emmanuel, Al Gore).

If not him, your local government. That's why they are there and what they are supposed to do.

I'm not up in a tizzy about it and screaming how I'm outraged. To myself, I find it to be disrespectful not to stand for the anthem.

It was in response to Trump acting like a child and insulting them.

If you're being picky, you're right but also you know there is some kind of manual the NFL has concerning this and many other functions of the league.

So I'd let him off the hook a little here.

The larger question is why are you so butthurt about others. "Others" have a right to their opinion of the Steelers actions. Just as the Steelers had a right to stay in the lockerroom.

My main beef with Tomlin is he apparently expressed displeasure at Alejandro Villanueva for respecting the flag. If true, Tomlin's action lends his "politicization" concerns to an appearance of dishonesty.

right wing outrage culture

Bull shite!!
The right wing didn't start a political movement disparaging cops and the flag. This is a BLACK LIVES MATTER issue, kowtowed to by the black football players. We have enough of these spoiled brats and their shenanigans.

Nope. But they had the unique opportunity of having a veteran on their team that did tours of duty under the flag and anthem. They could have just been men about it and said we'll stand with our brother who served so we have the opportunity to play this GAME and we'll find another way to protest.

If Tomlin were a true leader he would have told his team to support the US war veteran who's their freaking teammate. Go out there like they always have and stand for the national anthem. End of story. No politics at all. Supporting their teammate.

I’m disheartened by the lack of consistency by fellow conservatives. In this thread we have one guy claiming that Tomlin allowing the players to vote shows cowardice instead of leadership and another claiming Tomlin should’ve stayed out of it altogether. But then others want the ownership or coaches to step in and enforce that players stand for the anthem. It’s the same flexible outrage engine that annoys anyone with a brain when the left does it. If Tomlin has criticized Villanueva’s patriotism, I haven’t seen it. All he said was the point of staying in was to avoid disparate messages being sent by different teammates, and Villanueva realizes that he created that exact scenario inadvertently.

My central point: people who have been bitching to high heaven about athletes not keeping their political opinions to themselves are now outraged that Tomlin decided, in absence of a unanimous opinion, that they keep them to themselves

I voted for Trump. I like Trump, and I don’t like the anthem protests.

You’re the guy who doesn’t know how probability works and made me log on a couple years ago just to try and explain it. I have like 70 posts, and a handful of them are teaching you basic math.

He insulted the 6-15 people who knelt this year. People who were just jumping on the CK bandwagon. And the NFL responds with a "Oh no he didn't!" response like he called them all SOB's.

I agree with you. The call is to keep politics out of it. That's what the Steelers did.

My preference would be for the anthem to not even be played. It has no role at a professional sporting event.

When my company has meetings or events, we don't play the anthem or say the pledge. Not sure why I would expect another private business to do it.

Don't want anyone to present the world a false face by resentfully standing in mock honor of the Flag and Anthem just to comply with time and occasion.

Be proud. Show us exactly what you are, so we can more appropriately "adjust" our finances and leisure time.

It is their opinion that Tomlin, by keeping the team out, did present a political opinion.

Just as it is your opinion that he did not present a political opinion.

Don't present your side as fact, when it is just, like your opinion man.

Tomlin was in a no win situation, and I stated in previous threads that, no matter his intention, what he did would be seen by some as disrespectful.

Why does nobody seem to understand what happened here?

So a black coach who threw Hillary a $33,000 per person fund raiser (not a typo) told his players not to honor the national anthem as they have since they day they signed a contract, And as the guy who beat his chosen candidate asked them to . . .

And you don't see the problems??????
