Sounds like AP went a little overboard, and even acknowledged it in his texts to the mom.

However, nothing wrong with a switch.

Perhaps but I have found if you leave something to the imagination it is more effective. I threaten spankings and have made it out to be the worst thing in the world. The kids are so terrified by what they don't know that if I ever actually did it then Id have no trump card left.

After being a parent, I now believe my old man was truthful when he said it hurt him more than it hurt me.

As a father now ... I KNOW that Daddy was being truthful...as was my Grandpa with him.

I tell my sons ... "Last thing that I want to do when I come home ... is have to give you a whippin'"

My uncle (a "hard-case") tried to inject logic one time with Grandpa ... so I am told. He tried this on Grandpa: "Well, if it's gonna hurt you, and I know it's gonna hurt me ... then why don't we just forget about the whole thing?"

So say ... Grandpa was not amused.

When my brother was 10 and I was 8, we were getting to the age where spanking did not work anymore so my dad took an old weedeater and jerry rigged it to have belt segments attached to it. He called it the asswhacker 2000. He never used it, only demonstrated it once and that was all it took. We would get "timeouts" and dad would say don't make me go get the asswhacker.

ETA: the best part was that he kept it secret from my mom until after he passed away. My brother and I were talking with my mom one night and it came up, she always thought that it was for the really big weeds.

The doctor is obligated by law to report anything suspect for abuse. If the doctor neglects that, he could be in deep shite.

Did he patent that ... or, could it, say ... be duplicated by others?

You shouldn't be allowed to. Spanking is child abuse, and is a sign of lazy parenting.

Yes, I was spanked as a kid. I would have turned out just the same as I am today had I not been though.

If spanking is child abuse, the "one hour talking-to" qualifies as Gitmo Bay waterboarding. When given the choice, I always took the whipping.

After I got a whipping, there was absolution. I'd paid my debt to society. It was time to go and sin no more.

In other words, no harm no foul. No big deal then.

No shite, huh?

I'd much rather take that whippin' and be done with it.

Better than those that didn't get whipped but would end up "grounded" or some weak-arse shite.

I try to get creative with some punishments ... for example ... I had one who was having issues misbehaving in class ... in addition, I wasn't pleased with his hand-writing, which I thought was sloppy (and don't expect a teacher nowadays to set any standards) ... so, on a Saturday, he got to write 100 lines that had to meet my approval....half in print letters, the other half in cursive.

"I will not misbehave and disrupt class." ... or something to that effect.

Many kids aren't given a choice. I wasn't when I was a kid.

Sorry, but putting your hands on another human inflict harm is wrong, no matter the other person or relationship.

my cousin and his wife tried the no spanking approach because he used to have an anger problem and didn't want to accidentally go off on his son. Well his son started first grade last month and has been to the principle's office 4 times already. That little boy is a smartass and shitass and a cry baby

Spare the rod, spoil the child

I have 2 kids and have never spanked either and neither has ever been a disciplinary problem at school, and very rarely do they act a fool at home.
