another idiot who doesn't understand how it works. Do you think California is just writing big checks to Uncle Sam? Uncle Sam can cut off federal funding.(they won't). It doesn't mean the citizens of California will be released by the IRS.

I didn't expect you to be one of the ignorant ones. I though you were smart enough to think your way past that silly talking point.

Hmm... Maybe you should put the ethnicity map over the map showing what areas are poor/rich.

The south is a bit more diverse and not nearly as lily white as some of our other, more progressive states. Which is odd seeing how they preach diversity from behind their Lil white fenced neighborhoods and lily white private schools.

Edit: did It for you, hoss. Hmm I wonder what correlation we will find.

If paying income taxes is optional why don't you stop paying them now?

Definitely, frick a bunch of states' rights and sovereignty.

California needs to start acting in such a way as Southerners can approve. Who do they think they are, anyway?

First off, local and state law enforcement dont have authority to enforce federal immigration laws, hence the term federal. They are under no obligation to seek out immigration status information. Period.

The national 21 year old drinking age says you're full of shite. The federal government uses the power of the purse to compel states to do its bidding. You have to show proof of status to open a fricking bank account...the feds could legislate the same requirement for enrolling in school. I'm not saying that I advocate that, but you've got to be pretty fricking stupid to not see the possibility.

Absolutely, because once again, even Californians aren't so stupid as to refuse to comply when there's a gun to their heads.

There's no way Trump is cutting off federal funding to CA. He would need Congress's help, and even though the Republicans are in control, they're not stupid enough to do something like that.

However, if all federal funding was cut off to CA, don't you think there would be SOME type of reaction from the 39(+) million U.S. citizens who reside there? A taxpayer revolt seems like an appropriate response to me.

Ya except that would never happen. Not to mention the people getting most of the federal funds probably pay little to no taxes anyway.

Dude... They're Californians. Not Spartans. These folks tremble at the thought of those scary black guns with their high capacity military style drum magazines that can kill 100 babies in 5 seconds... They are the least of our worries in terms of a "revolt" our adolescents would mop the floor with the typical Starbucks sipping Californian.

I think that's California's point - don't make the States do the federal government's dirty work on immigration.

I think that's Louisiana point. Don't make the states do the governments dirty work on the legal drinking age.

Federal funds support highways, hospitals, military installations, education systems, etc.; not just welfare recipients. If those projects were de-funded, I think you'd see a reaction from the people who actually pay federal taxes.

Indeed, I was against knuckling under to the feds, however, Louisiana is one of those hypocritical red states that couldn't get along without the federal government teat.

California, on the other hand...

is cali going to pay for its own defense? pay for water that it uses and what not? sure the citizens pay more than they get back, but without the fed cali is fricked. Its financials aren't pretty, and they have some big time legislation issues.

You don't get it do you? California can say "no, we won't pay taxes to you USA!" and the US will turn around and say "yes, you will."

The End.

The south tried that back in the 1860s and it didn't turn out so well...
