After this latest round of de-mobilization and disarmament is complete, US military planners will need to be very carefully selective with regard to future "boots on the ground" military operations.

Let's take a look at things in 2020. That's six years away.

Nobody's contemplating a US ground invasion of Mother Russia now or ever, but, Russian tactical proficiency could some day rival our own, so, in the future, we will have to be selective if we feel the need to fight them.

You need to brush up on Putin and his ideology.

He has been at this before Obama. This isn't some over night action. This has been in the works for years.

Yeah...Ronald Reagan would've totally let this shite happen. "Mr. Gorbachev TEAR DOWN THIS WALL...bitch!" Remember that guy? The same one that waved off assistance getting from the presidential Limo into the hospital after being shot. Buttoned up his jacket. Walked in like a mf'ing boss, then collapsed. Same one that was joking with the OR staff on his way to surgery and not crying "am I gonna die? and shite".

Just saying...'Murica

Indeed they do. And one of the main motivators for this is that our idiot president has demonstrated that he's a coward with his bullshite "red lines" while also weakening our military to the point that a successful war against us now looks like a possibility to Putin. Or at the least the ability to do what he wants without having to worry of any real consequences from us.

Yep, what works is the Reagan doctrine of peace through strength. Freedom can never be taken for granted and there is a cost as long as aggressors reign.

Yep!!! A strong America equals peace. Of course, we have to keep our leaders in check as well. It seems quit tempting to use the world's greatest military super power of all time to do your bidding. I know I'd probably bitch slap a few countries just because.

Probably so. I'm nice most of the time. But sooner or later I'd get on a whiskey drunk and be in one of those moods. Some a-hole leader of state would get on TV and talk some shite about whipping the US's arse and shite. So...I'd get on the Bat Phone and tell my boys to go power bomb his arse. I would probably disclose that in my campaign though. I can be painfully honest sometimes.

The world and technology has changed exponentially since WW2. The US military can do things even the Russians couldn't fathom now.
Yes it has. And the US and Russia are not the only two players in this potential showdown. There is, for instance, China. There is North Korea. There is the Islamofascist world out there, centered maybe in Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan - or maybe not particularly centered anywhere. But out there.

And then there is this one thing that is within the scope and range of a lot of these other players, who may choose to line up against the USA in a Russian conflict - nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) LINK. We may have all the technology in the world, but if one of these EMPs goes off in certain stategic areas, all communication and most military technology is shut down for the foreseeable future. Out on the battlefield, this would not be a really great thing for our side. Here at home, it would be catastrophic.

Liberals don't like it but its true and has been though out history. Doesn't matter if its a nation or kids on a play ground. If you give off the appearance of being weak or actually are weak, someone will eventually try you. But if you walk with confidence stay prepared and at the first sign of trouble pop the first motherfricker square in the mouth then all others will leave you alone.

Putin has no respect and no fear of Obama. He is willing to push harder and farther because of that. He is willing to play a game of chicken and he is betting heavily on himself. He also tried it when Bush was in office in Georgia and got away with it then also.

Putin didn't respect Bush and he won't respect who ever is after Obama. He does not care who runs the show in other nations. He will do what he wants to expand the Russian empire.

When you have a military-industrial complex, not just that of the U.S. but half the world, the best way to sell more bullets, bandages and butter is to help create as big a war as possible. Go back and look at the history of WW1, and then think about all the military actions since the Korean war that are basically unnecessary, to the defense of the United States.

While it is kind of amusing watching the peace-nik leftist doves turn into hawks with the flip of a switch, when they and the jingoist nationalists agree on bombing or drone striking practically anything that moves when it is an ocean away from us, you have to wonder what it will take to instill any kind of sanity in our political system.
