Putin didn't respect Bush and he won't respect who ever is after Obama. He does not care who runs the show in other nations. He will do what he wants to expand the Russian empire.
I agree until we have someone that holds him accountable.

Since the advent of nuclear weapons, the concept of "world war" is completely different today than it was in the 40's.
How can two powerful nations have a war when at the press of a button both sides could be completely annihilated?

You need to brush up on Putin and his ideology.
He has been at this before Obama. This isn't some over night action. This has been in the works for years.
So you believe that Reagan would not had a stratedgy of completing the pipeline from Canada, developing every "smidgen" of energy possible, getting Europe/Nato off their dependancy of Russia, and having a missile shield around Europe and the USA?
When Reagan was elected, the popular opinion was that the Soviet Union would win the Cold War. Even after the Berlin Wall was taken down the leftist loons were still teaching that we were doomed to fail.
It has taken someone like Obama and his clueless band of Progressives, weakening us at every opportunity, to give Putin new hope.

That graph obviously isn't correct...
''One of the distinguishing characteristics of Vladimir Putin’s presidency has been his commitment to revitalizing Russia’s military. Putin, who has noted that Russia’s perceived weakness makes it vulnerable to external pressure and internal disruption. Putin's plan calls for a million men under arms, thousands of new tanks and planes, a hundred new satellites, and next-generation weapons. With overwhelming support, the State Duma passed Putin's $755 billion plan to restore Russian might.''

While it's impressive that he wants to build up the military, you have to wonder if they really have an economic situation that can support this. Their economy ain't so hot.
I thought I read one time that this kind of crazy defense spending is what helped lead to the downfall of the soviets in the 80's. They were trying for decades to keep up with the U.S and it all came crashing down on them.

I do know that a former, now dead, kgb defector was pretty much right. Down to what we are now seeing in Latin America.
Dismiss russia if you want. They are relevant. We have less allies today than in the cold war.
Europe is now socialized pretty much.
