What's funny is that BR leadership was never really concerned with area until this movement started. Now, there is a fast paced to incorporate chief tax revenue areas.
They never had a reason to annex these areas before.

would that survive in court? seems pretty indefensible

That wasn't talking down to you. Its referencing your first post in this thread. It brought zero to the discussion.

Good. It's an issue that will affect the whole parish so the whole parish should have a chance to vote on it.

Because they were already reaping the benefits of these areas without having to support them.

There is honest debate going on but I haven't seen where one side is talking down to the other like they are idiots.
where is this honest debate going on?
certainly not here, Advocate comment sections, city council proceedings of any sort, or facebook

Did they do this when other areas in EBR became their own cities in the recent past?

So will all of East Baton Rouge Parish get to vote on initiatives that only affect BR City now?

How is going to effect the whole parish? This sets a bad precedent for the rest of the state.

Because the City of Baton Rouge will no longer be able to siphon $46 million a year for their benefit from the unincorporated tax payer.

Add it all up
Per the 2010 census
EBR Parish 440K
B Rouge 230K
SG est. 110K
Do the math, it's not hard to see that the deck would be stacked against SG.

What government do you think the mall has been in then? Of course they've been supporting them.

Really? BR City has been supporting the MoL with just government revenue?

I'm not saying that's not true. Only saying they will get some support outside of the SG area should this bill pass.
To clarify other peoples questions, nothing has been signed into law. Still a long way to go.

Of course SG is outnumbered 2 to 1 and would lose.
This.
Even though I am against incorporation, the actions of the opponents to SG are vindictive and tyrannical. There will be a reckoning after all of this is over.

Why not let the entire state vote, they are trying to run our business.
Btw, where were you in the CATS issue? Were you for letting the entire parish vote on that one too?

There is no such thing as a Baton Rouge city government and a lot of SG supporters fail to remember that. The mall of Louisiana, while not in the city limits, is still under the jurisdiction of the East Baton Rouge Metro government.

Exactly, why annex these areas when they didn't have to provide police or fire protection?

The fact there are people actually defending this is sad.
I mean REALLY sad. This precedent basically puts the rights of citizens to legally and rightfully form local governments in the hands of OTHER people not in that specific area.
It's like having New Orleans vote on IBM coming into BR - because it "affects" the surrounding areas.
