Walmart has made American products disappear.
Then they were inferior or overpriced, or simply not wanted anymore, or possibly all three.
it enabled other retailers to likewise move their purchases from U.S. made to foreign made.
Above reply also applies. Looks lik...
If it would be legal to have the giant corporations have to pay higher wages, I'd be all for it (hence my support for their unionization).
But that would hurt the same people who benefit most from price-competition
That is the way to level the playing field
By makin...
The fact is, and it is an undisputable fact, that Reich's policies and ideas (used by the Clinton administration) helped energize the strong Clinton economy.
Wrong. Any policies Reich advocated slowed employment growth and permanently raised the natural rate of unemployment, and [i]t...

re: Why is "taking less profit" never on the table? - 90proofprofessional
That not just wrong, it's vacuous. Reich is not more knowledgeable than any academic economist, anywhere. BTW, Reich was an opponent of Clinton's policy that helped the economy most. And Clinton did it anyway, and it turned out great. Do you have any idea what that was?...
The quote came from Robert Reich, so I assume he had information
Why assume this? If you take such things on authority, why not take it on the authority of actual economists? Reich is nothing but a labor advocate, and former Top Labor Advocate. What other kind of shite would you ex...

re: Buffett weighs in on min wage: MW=suck, EITC=awesome - 90proofprofessional
I think some form of EITC should be the foundation of any set of policies for a "War on Poverty". That'd be way better than our current setup that largely fails to incentivize work....
Without laws, I could pay that person $5 per hour. He or she can't live on that. That is of little benefit. I can't argue "it is only worth $5 per hour" because he can say "then dig the damn ditch yourself."
Just like he could have done if there were no min wage. ...

You can post that shite as many times as you like but it will still remain poor reasoning, contradicted by both uncontroversial basic microeconomic theory + empirical research. Anything Reich says on this subject --> toilet...

re: Buffett weighs in on min wage: MW=suck, EITC=awesome - 90proofprofessional
Does he propose how we're going to pay for all that?
Not needing to raise taxes is probably the main reason MW is so popular as a "anti-poverty" measure. Problem is, it's not a good one. EITC is superior, but yes, it costs the taxpayer in much more direct ways- there's its politi...

Buffett weighs in on min wage: MW=suck, EITC=awesome - 90proofprofessional
Is his analysis sound?
I may wish to have all jobs pay at least $15 an hour. But that minimum would almost certainly reduce employment in a major way, crushing many workers possessing only basic skills. Smaller increases, though obviously welcome, will still leave many hardworking Americans ...
