I could see why he wouldn't want to do it because it will get trashed ,but then again he put himself out there in being a Televanglist preacher with excess and tax free status. I mean you cannot defend that type of hypocrisy it was like when Jessie boy would would rent a call sign to conceal his N number on his multi million dollar private jet to avoid it being tracked coming back from Tahiti and flying in to refuel where I worked. All these Televanglist Preachers are bullshitters so I have no problem with people calling them out on their bullshite.

Conservatives say things like churches and private charities traditionally cared for those in need, so why should the government be involved. Or, if I want to help people, I'll donate to a church or charity and let them help people.

Then when a disaster strikes, and scumbag preacher man doesn't let people use his enormous shelter....those poor people need some floating bootstraps!

I already stipulated that Osteen is a sham. But it's ridiculous for you to tell him what to do with his church when you have no idea of the price tag.

Did you give 5% of your revenue to the hurricane victims? No? Why does Lakewood church have to make a donation of 5% of their revenue?

I don't blame him I wouldn't either...look what people did to the dome...

they were told it was not set up to be an evacuation center with food, water and place to sleep just a last minute refuge from the storm and they destroyed the place...

the same exact thing would happen here...its not set up with food, water and sleeping for thousands of people and most like I would bet people would deface it and steal from it as well...

Funny stuff.

If you're going to look at his "Church" as a for-profit business, then it should be taxed as such.

But who's gonna pay the massive clean up bill and who's going to repair the church after the flood victims leave? You?

a-hole has enough money to afford a $10.5 million house in River Oaks. He can come up with the dough.

Update:

Joel Osteen is opening the doors to his church to refugees in need of shelter.
According to the leaders of the church, Lakewood had been inaccessible due to flooding.

quote:

Pastor Joel Osteen's Houston megachurch says it's opening its doors Tuesday to residents displaced by flooding.

Lakewood Church, which was founded by Osteen's father in the 1950s, posted on social media Monday that the venue was "inaccessible due to severe flooding" following Hurricane Harvey, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm.

The message included the National Guard rescue hotline, along with a list of shelters that displaced Texans could go to.

that is not the point that he can...he shouldn't have to just because he can...that is the stupid mindset of liberals that they think they can destroy someones property just because that person can afford to repair it or steal from someone because he can afford to buy another one...

This is in inane reply with no sense. I didn't treat it as a for profit business. Non-profits have budgets and income and expenses. Perhaps you are unaware.

Look, no one is saying he has to do anything. He's a self proclaimed Christian, and that comes with responsibilities when you're untaxed for that reason. It's his church and his money, he'll probably end up letting people in to save face. I'm just saying he completely deserves flak for not opening up his sanctuary to be a fricking sanctuary.

The winner in this fiasco is Mattress Mac. Opened up all of his stores to those in need.

He does ask people to donate what they can so now it is time to return the favor. He takes donations from the elderly and others in the community with tax exempt status and lives in luxury. You can't defend that type of hypocrisy. He is opening his church now ,but he has too this is not out of the goodness of his heart or being a good Christian. Oh and I am no where near liberal but I agree with the libs and anyone really calling him out.

Says a lot about you that you just assume his property is going to be destroyed by people escaping their flooded homes.

Are you really calling out posters for not covering the charitable costs of a charity? That stadium, upkeep, his house, and plane were all purchased with donations.

To be fair, a considerable amount of O'Steen's wealth is from his book sales. I would imagine he's donated a lot of his own money to his church as well.

He's still a charlatan, but his empire wasn't built on tithing alone.
