Man.

We are all for getting rid of social programs because they are a hindrance to the system, and love to claim "That's what donating is for"

Now we have this very instance, and now we question those who perhaps didn't donate enough, and take up for the leaders who at the time wasn't doing anything because he "doesn't have to do shite."

People fricking suck.

Edit: I'm not targeting this towards you, just in general.

You know I don't even really like Joel Osteen but for some reason this story smacks of opportunistic attacking and I feel like there's something missing to the story

Conservatives say things like churches and private charities traditionally cared for those in need, so why should the government be involved. Or, if I want to help people, I'll donate to a church or charity and let them help people.

Then when a disaster strikes, and scumbag preacher man doesn't let people use his enormous shelter....those poor people need some floating bootstraps!

And individuals and private charity are playing a large part in the rescue/housing efforts now.

How would the logistics work?

Hey Bob, go open the church for refugees.

I can't get there, my house is flooded and the roads are impassable.

Is there anyone that lives nearby that can open the doors and take care of thousands of people?

Might be a couple of people, I'll make some calls.

Okay Pastor, I have one person that has a boat that thinks they can make it there. Is there any food at the church?

We'll have to truck some food and cots in.

But the roads are impassable.

Who takes care of all these people? Who keeps them from stealing? How do you feed them? What happens if there is an emergency? What if the church ends up flooding?

You guys make it sound so easy, go open the church

i don't care what the scenario is, my life has gone off the rails if I am relying on joel osteen to keep me safe, even as a last resort.

I tried to backtrace the story last night. Seems someone took a pic of his church and it was dry as a bone. He supposedly had initially stated it was flooded. To whom he said that to, I don't know. I couldn't find that quote. Then he Tweeted out a couple of the generic "thoughts and prayers" statements and people went on the attack. He also blocked several people on Twitter that asked him if he'd be opening his church to house displaced people.

You just had an entire made up conversation with yourself. Not only have people taken pictures of the church not flooded, but you just made up a hypothetical situation in order to defend, yet again, Joel osteen. If y'all can't see how dumb y'all are getting just to try and dig this guy out of an obviously man made hole, then it's just sad.

There really is something fundamentally wrong with people who's response to a natural disaster is to figure out who to vilify

Says a lot about you that you just assume his property is going to be destroyed by people escaping their flooded homes.

yeah...it shows I pay attention to history and history shows that in situations like this that does indeed happen...did I say everyone? No, but if you going to tell me if he lets in hundreds if not thousands in that facility that is not going to happen? That every single person is going to be of the utmost respect to everyone and everything in that facility and treat it like it was theirs like they should do when they are being aided?

If you think that then you are very foolish...

I'm not digging him out of anything, he's a grown man with millions, he can dig out of his own hole.

You're an idiot, and you've proven it for years on this board. You must be a closet tech fan

Televangelists aren't interested in charity. If they were, they wouldn't be televangelists.

You may disagree with me, but that doesn't make me an idiot. You making up stories and passing them off as reality and me calling that bullshite isn't my fault.

I could see why he wouldn't want to do it because it will get trashed ,but then again he put himself out there in being a Televanglist preacher with excess and tax free status. I mean you cannot defend that type of hypocrisy it was like when Jessie boy would would rent a call sign to conceal his N number on his multi million dollar private jet to avoid it being tracked coming back from Tahiti and flying in to refuel where I worked. All these Televanglist Preachers are bullshitters so I have no problem with people calling them out on their bullshite.

He should've went into politics instead of religion. People already expect politicians to be worthless while gaining wealth from doing nothing.
