You make no sense. If there is a procedure or a treatment that will save the life of a child it will be implemented whether the parent wants to do it or not. But if it's experimental even the government won't cover that. You do have a right to say no as a patient or a parent of a patient to something that is not a provable solution to the problem.

No one is talking about "experimental" procedures. We're talking about known, provable care. For example, Kimmel's son's heart defect. He has a great chance of survival because of the surgery.

If this bill passes, a poor family in Kimmel's position could go bankrupt because of it.

If I can't charge you for pre-existing conditions, then there is no incentive for you to get health insurance until you get sick. Thus, that's not insurance at all. That's forced cost sharing.
Hence, a mandate.

You can have pre-existing conditions coverage only with a mandate.

I keep seeing people use this straw man argument of being denied care.

Kimmel's test is not only about care, but about coverage. His point was that families shouldn't have to choose between their child's life and bankruptcy.

I hate insurance companies but that is exactly why they don't want to cover pre-existing conditions. If they don't, they have to raise costs a shite ton to cover them.

They are sending everything to the states. It will work better. The fact is, you don't know the facts.... nor does Jimmy.

I know kids covered by state plans that get much better healthcare than I do. So why are you slinging BS without knowing what the hell is going on.

Just come on the PT and ask.. "How are kids... by no fault of their own, born with an illness going to be covered?"

Then you would get your answer. It seems that's not what you want. Am I right? It's just to save Ocare that's already DEAD...

That might be factually correct but isn't the whole story.

Graham/Cassidy keeps most of the Obamacare taxes. It block grants this money back to the states to SPECIFICALLY DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE. The issue of covering the "uncoverable". They are getting this money with strings attached.

States will be in charge of covering their residents. Those with pre-existing conditions/the sick/the elderly might get a taxpayer funded subsidy(like Obamacare) or states might create a high risk pool.

Kimmel isn't telling the whole truth. If I was Cassidy I would grow a set and call him out.

I haven't watched a late night talk show in a while. Not only are they no longer entertaining, but too much political hyperbole. There used to be political satire but this is more propaganda driven material today.

First you have no idea if this final bill would allow insurance companies to charge for preexisting conditions, let alone through the roof. Second, most Americans are already paying through the roof for insurance, and for those who aren't, it's solely because the government is paying through the roof for them, and third even if insurance companies end up being able to charge ten million times as much for health insurance when there are preexisting conditions, that doesn't change the fact that there is an existing law that says that life saving healthcare MUST be provided regardless of ability to pay and no Republican has proposed changing that law.

So Jimmy Kimmel lied, and you bought into it.

No one really knows what assumptions Cassidy is using to make this claim.
Those assumptions begin with the FACT that obamacare is unsustainable. So nearly anything will cover more people.

Affordability is also hardly debatable, regardless of assumption.

this bill allows insurance companies to charge thru the roof for pre-existing conditions.

That's only true if states that choose to pursue waivers (upon receiving the block grants) decide to waive current ACA market rules.

Essentially, Graham-Cassidy will give the choice of covering pre-existing conditions, keeping the age rating, or covering essential health benefits to the states. If states choose to include these things, insurance companies will have to cover them.

So Kimmel is upset that the bill allows for ACA requirements to be waived, and is assuming that all states will just choose to do that.

ETA: I should add that operationally, this bill is a fricking nightmare. 2 years is not enough time for states to figure out how they're going to operate under this plan - so expect this to be a jumbled mess if it passes.

We must continue to #resist the virtue signaling progressives like Kimmel and the OP.

OP could start a charity to help poor people in Kimmel's position. But instead, he wants the government to dip into your wallet once again. The next pet project will require more dipping into the wallet. And the beat goes on.

Do something about it yourself OP and we'll likely help you.

Personally, I'm tired of progs looking to grow mommy gov more and more. It's madness.
