So more taxes is the solution? Sounds like the socialists.

First off there are very few people who want a job today that does not have one.

Second off there is not enough US labor to bring back these low skilled jobs and maintain our standard of living. It is not even close. Anyone that thinks that is naive.

All the border tax will do is grow government, raise costs for consumers and hurt the economy.

I hate this new reality.

I don't want to work so I won't. For frick's sake.

And some of you want to pay these people not to work to keep them "happy".

This country and the world needs a purge.

If this is true do you think people will quit what they are doing now to take the new jobs like sewing underwear or making Christmas lights?

We will have to open the border to find enough labor to met the job demand these people envision such a tax will create?

Hunger is a great motivator - as long as we have millions of uncorking able bodied people in the USA, I say let them get a job - any job - or starve.

Problem solved.

When we get to the point where there are no able-bodied people on welfare and they are all paying for their own insurance, and feeding/housing/education their own children we may have to go back to temporally importing aliens for certain jobs.

that is a welfare debate but it makes a great point----we cannot have tariffs like Trump and Ryan wants if we are going to pay people enough that they will sit home and not work.

They both say there will be no cuts to welfare.

It is the naive assumption
You use the term "naive" quite a bit in dismissing impact of unfair trade upon an exporter. Considering the indisputable
impact of unilateral trade advantage on trade itself, yours is an exceedingly odd conclusion. "Naive" would be another descriptor.

What does a border tax have to do with "illegals running around?"

11 down votes and no one saying they will quit their job to take these imagined new jobs they think will appear when the Trump tariffs are implemented.

You ignore the obvious NC TIgah.

What do you really expect to happen with this massive tariff Trump wants?

Where is the labor you envision that will take these jobs?

15.4% of our economy depends on imports. LINK You want to tax that part of economy with the idea that we have so much labor we can replace those imports with domestic production. You are an idiot if you think so.

Here is what will happen with the Trump/Ryan tariff----

1) we will all pay more for goods,
2) near monopolies will result amongst US manufacturers,
3) government will get a lot of money and grow bigger
4) the total number of American employed will stay the same or decrease.

The tariff will never disappear.

The Port Barre underwear factory can reopen with more automation and fewer workers?

Or did they tear it down?

I can't keep up with all the straw men and fallacies being thrown around.

Our economy does not operate in a vacuum. You need to stop making general statements about the economy.

1. False
2. False
3. False
4. False

Unless you have supporting evidence of any of it.

All goods are not the same in both function and perceived consumption from consumers.

We already have Tariffs in place AS DO OTHER COUNTRIES....

Wilber Ross was just sworn in as Commerce Secretary. Ross is extremely anti-tariff. But he is very pro-FairTrade. The goal is to get other countries to drop their "tariffs" on US goods. But if they don't, we need to pull out the proverbial "big stick".

I don't understand why you want US exporters disadvantaged.

False!

You are so caught up in your 19th century protectionism arguments that you are apparently not able to understand what is actually being discussed.
