It is the naive assumption by many here that a border tax will bring back jobs.

If this is true do you think people will quit what they are doing now to take the new jobs like sewing underwear or making Christmas lights?

We will have to open the border to find enough labor to met the job demand these people envision such a tax will create?

What if the 100 million or so quit "sitting on arse" to do that stuff? Cut off the freebies and watch.

Nit sure where you are, but it's a beautiful day here, although a little cool. You should get outside and enjoy nature or something. You're breaking down.

If only we had a group of able bodied people receiving money from the government for their subsistence...

If only we could utilize them working in factories and fields in exchange for their benefits

What if they want to make tennis shorts instead? Why does it have to be underwear?

Weird thread.

You don't really think that we have 100 million working age people who are not working do you?

First of all, people in general adapt to reality and necessity. If it's right to close the border, you close it and adapt. Short term economic concerns shouldn't make the decision.

Secondly, I'm sure we can deport all the illegals we find and wall the border while simultaneously filling the labor gap with guest workers at the underwear plant, to use your example.

Why can't the government put people to work? If you are unable to find a job after x number of days on unemployment benefits, to continue to receive benefits you have to do something (ie help build a road, collect garbage, work as an office secretary, etc).

With the abundance of jobs there will be a dramatic decrease in the need for welfare and unemployment benefits. Hooray those on government assistance will finally be able to get back to the work they have been trying so hard to find!

I find these threads, along with the Guaranteed Minimum Income threads, to be amusing.

WE HAVE TOO MUCH LABOR!!!

WE DON"T HAVE ENOUGH LABOR!!!

Perhaps those Wendy's kiosks will get here just in time, and they can teach the idiot that can't take my order right to make underwear and Christmas lights.

Well that's not really the issue we're discussing.

It'll be tough to convince them to take a paycutt to take a job though.

we won't have to worry about that, there will be plenty of available workers and capacity after companies shift their export targeted production out of the country.

It's fun to watch IB completely flip his idiotically position. He went from hating taxpayer funded socialism to loving it in like 3 months
