re: Here's where AG Sessions is: DOJ announces crackdown on opioid abuse by doctors

How the hell are they going to crack down on opiods and doctors? Doctors are skittish as hell already and being stingy as all get out already over the last few years.
PCP's won't even mess with patients with chronic pain anymore as far as handling their opiods. They farm those patients out to pain management.
They don't call in Rx anymore. They require hard scripts and an office visit. PCPs can't do refills. 30 day rx at a time.
The doctors have been roped in as much as they can be.
The restrictions over the last few years are already causing misery on legit chronic pain pts. Any more of a crack down is gonna do no good.

I guess that's a start, but throwing more people in jail is a tactical failure in the long run.
I agree - build some gallows.

Not one undertaken by the DOJ, but have you tried to get an antibiotic from your physician lately?!?! It's virtually impossible unless you're coughing up your lungs and have 103 fever for 3 weeks.

quote:Yes. But it's also a lot more of an issue now than on the past. So we would expect larger cases now.
It should be noted that this is the largest case of it's kind in DOJ history.

I know you freedom and liberty lovers don't like Sessions, but this is a good thing.

Holy strawman.
That isn't a strawman. That is over half the reason so many people are fricked up from pills.
Go after these doctors that strung people out and turned them to heroin once their supply dried up.

I completely agree with you on the people who really need these meds and doctors who prescribe them legally. They are cracking down on the illegal scrips, on the prescription mills and such.
It is almost impossible to get meds for pain or even antibiotics.

I haven't. Didn't know that was a thing these days. Is this due to rapid bacterial adaptations/mutations or something?

Of course they've been trying to cut down on unnecessary antibiotics, but I have never heard of a government crackdown. Maybe it's a state policy that you're referring to.

Yeah but that's not what we are talking about here.
I agree with what you're saying.

But both clarified their views.

Not if you NEED it.
I was just on SEPTRA twice in one month because I NEEDED it. It's all the people that have a cough or runny nose that want a running script for amoxicillin that is the problem.

Yeah, I would have never guessed that this fossil from the 50s wasn't thinking of another way to throw more drug users into prison. Shocking.

It's 'recommendations' from the FDA.
I suffer from chronic sinus infections. I have had them for a very long time, I know the symptoms and I know what happens if I don't get antibiotics. Yet, every.single.time I have to wait at least two weeks to get them, despite my history and the fact that, at my age, I am more than able to distinguish between 'need' and 'want.' One of my children coughed for over two weeks and was clearly not doing well, getting worse almost by the day. Couldn't sleep, declining appetite, increasing lethargy. One of the pediatricians we saw wanted to wait 'just 3 more days' because she couldn't hear anything in his chest. Just 2 days later they had to open the office on a Sat. because I refused to go to the ER. Diagnosis: pneumonia. NOT walking pneumonia. For a 2-year old. Irresponsible medicine!

No, here's what I'm referring to. From the FDA. My doctor would be livid to hear how easily the doc in the box prescribed the antibiotics. Perhaps going to urgent care is the way to go now.

This is wonderful.
Otherwise healthy people with an upper respiratory infection should just ride it out.
Over use of antibiotics for a sinus infection or bronchitis with people that have no comorbidities only results in bacterial resistance.
That and dumb asses that stop taking their antibiotics when they feel better and leave the the surviving bacteria with exposure to the antibiotic without dying which leads to increased resistance.
The worst mistake we ever made in this area was treating antibiotics like they were magic and over using them.

Have you ever had a chronic sinus infection with fever, pain and associated symptoms and tried to run a household, go to work, and function for 2 or more weeks? I thought medicine is supposed to prevent suffering, not prolong it.
So, because of the misuse by some, we are now all supposed to suffer. Sounds like the dumbing down of school curricula because some are unable to keep up with them.

I don't get sick.
I haven't seen a doctor since 1999 because I have the immune system of an alligator.
I admit I am lucky.
However, you are an idiot.
Over use of antibiotics has led to bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
Every person put on antibiotics that could make it without them helps get us back to the pre penicillin age.
I don't care if you feel like shite for two weeks. Take one for the team to avoid a post antibiotic age where they have grown resistance and we are back at square one.

First, let's keep it civil and lose the name-calling.
I'll take one for my family, first and foremost. And if I can't function and do what I need to do for them, that's no good.
Congrats on your immune system!
