I wonder if Chrysler dealership owners consider what they need to do to get more white people interested in buying their 300s. And are all the black customers scaring potential white people away?

I'd say this is less a situation of rascism but pandering gone wrong.

If the guy is worried about poor blacks then he just needs to price them out.

I've got nothing against the email, but it's a dumb mistake on his part to think it was OK to put that in writing in our current PC/bullshite social climate.

J.A. Adande, on ESPN agreed with what he said. We can't have truth in business.
We have gangs beathing the shite and killing people, yet the media is focused on speech.
White flight is the answer.

This is irrelevant to the PC crowd claiming another "victim".

THIS GUY PHRASED HIS ARGUMENTS POORLY. He should have couched all his arguments as what is the most profitable demographic and what are WE AS AN ORGANIZATION doing to attract them.

There has got to be more to this story. I think he wants to sell.

In 2004 the Hawk's record was 13-69.
In 2011 The team was 40-26 (strike year) and made the playoffs for the 5th straight year.

Yet this owner thinks attendance is up because he got some white cheerleaders and made the Kiss Cam less "black". But you call me a "fricking idiot"?!?

His mistake was putting all of that in an email. Too risky...better to discuss the issue, which is valid, at a face-to-face mtg.

Unless I missed it... Sounds like the email of an aware marketer more than a racist. The mere mention of race and citing demographics doesn't make one a bigot.

Mark Cuban said the Sterling situation was a slippery slope.

Yep. Luckily it never came to an owners' vote, but this is exactly what he warned about.

Also, Atlanta sports franchises suck. That guy will probably be happy to sell.

Why is his wealth relevant? Are you suggesting we should treat rich people differently? Are they subject to poor treatment because they are "rich enough" already? I don't get it.

How's that? The Braves have been the most successful MLB club over the last 20 yrs and Falcons up until last year had the best 5 year run in the NFL only behind the Pats. Oh and they did sell out just about every home game over that stretch.

Wouldn't lump the Hawks in with those 2 because they have been a pretty poorly run franchise even though they have had a pretty good run themselves at making the playoffs the last 6 years.

Levinson's exactly right about the fan base and who they're marketing to. It absolutly makes no sense to keep marketing to a
part of the community thats buying little if any season tickets.
I used to go to Hawks games ih the mid 80's (the Domonique years)
The Omni was sold out on a regular basis and it was a completly different clientle than who shows up now.

I don't think walking into a stadium and seeing black people makes you "aware". Being that the guy offered to sell the minute the e-mail came out tells me that owning a basketball franchise wasn't his "thing" anyway.

Yes, clearly he was an uniformed moron who had no sense of the underlying reality of the Atlanta Hawks fan base.

So what fact do you dispute? Are fans not really late to games? Are F&B sales not really below league averages? Is his rough estimate of the fans racial make-up really that far off?

Or are you just reaching grasping at straws?

I dispute that I'm not going to games because I don't want to be close to black people. If I cared, I would be offended. I don't go to games because I hate going to downtown Atlanta. I hate fighting through an hour and a half of traffic, and I hate waiting for 30 minutes for MARTA after a game, just to barely squeeze in a slow moving train.

The guy is speaking about people he knows nothing about.

The biggest issue/concern is not any "fear" of any other race.
It's marketing and atmosphere at Phillips Arena. It's completely
geared towards the African American community. From the music,
entertainment, cheerleaders and even the uniforms (sorry, ATL across the uniforms looks freakin idiotic)

It was a completely different atmosphere and fan base when they were regularly selling out the Omni during the mid and late 80's.

You don't get it. He's rich. He's white. Thus, he is a racist and a bigot.

Oh. The. Irony.

Dude wants to sell.

He saw the pricetag Sterling got. He "self-reported" because he could create an artificial demand outside the owners association.

He said today he's already heard from multiple billionaires. Id say he won.

The email was self reported.

The guy seems more then happy to sell.

There is no outrage from anyone. Why is everyone so up in arms over this?

Yeah this guy seems to be finding an easy way to get rid of his team.
