I don't think that's how it works. And just because I'm ok with it doesn't mean that I would participate.

What's wrong? Do you only defend the rights of those who believe like you do, or am I not allowed to have an opinion?

Nope, you can have an opinion... But quit being a fricking pussy when people ask you why you think that way. Quit taking the easy out and saying "Because I feel that way" and "ohhh, I can't have an opinion"

But your opinion is actually affecting peoples lives and their ability to pursue happiness. Don't you ever feel like an oppressive a-hole because of this?

I don't give a frick if his opinion is hurting people, he has every right to have that opinion. But again, don't be a fricking pussy when people ask you to explain why you feel that way. Speak your fricking mind and explain your reasoning behind it.

Marriage has always been between one man and one woman in America until recently. It's the traditional way that marriage has been in most parts of the world for most of all recorded time. It's the best arrangement for society and children. You already know how I feel about this and it's no secret.
But then I really don't have to give you a detailed or complicated reason why I believe what I believe.

Gays don't need to be married to experience happiness so this is a weak argument. In fact, gays won't be happy even after being allowed to marry.

Slavery was totally cool here up until 150yrs ago and is still widely accepted in parts of the world... Guess you're ok with that too?

Also, blacks didn't have the same rights as whites until about 50yrs ago... I guess that traditional line of thinking should remain also?

Why? Because you think that if gays can get married that all straight men are going to become gay and quit breeding?

You shouldn't feel like an oppressive a-hole, you ARE an oppressive a-hole. The Jesus that I have learned about would bitch slap you if He were ever to return.

Of course you are. It's when your opinion infringes on others in the form of political action that it becomes a problem. I see no reason two adults (or more) who want to tie their worldly goods to each other shouldn't be able to do it.

If government is allowing some marriage between adults and not others, it needs out the marriage business (which I believe anyway)

So you equate traditional marriage that has been beneficial to society with a humanitarian outrage like slavery? That's odd!

So Jesus would slap me huh? You have a very firm grasp of scripture.

Well speed limits, seat belts, fishing licenses, etc. all infringe on my freedoms. That's life.

Again, how is gay marriage not beneficial to society? Prove that to me first... Prove to me that if gays are married that straight couples stop reproducing and it kills off society.

Heres a hint for you, gays are already fricking... just because they get married isn't going to increase/decrease that. So if there was ANY affect on society, it would already be in play.

And I used slavery because it has been around since the beginning of time and is a "traditional" way of thinking.... So if you agree that the traditional way of thinking in that regards can be wrong, why can't the traditional way of thinking about marriage?

Metaphorically slap you. Since when do biblical scholars take things literally? Only when it suits your needs it would appear.

HORRIBLE examples... You're using things that AFFECT EVERYONE regardless of race and sexual orientation to something that discriminates against one group based on sexual orientation

LOL

Actually, I take everything in the bible that's meant to be literal, literally. I don't think you know what you are talking about and the more you speak, the more that is evident.

Some people would debate the necessity for those as well. I would say that suggesting Christians can't drive or fish would be infringing upon freedoms and more of an accurate comparison but you comparing a fishing license to marriage is actually pretty telling.

My point is that people don't always get what they want simply because they want it.
