I'm glad people have the right to be selfish.

Don't be giving me that evil eye. You know as well as I that the chosen people with degrees from fine institutions know what's best for us. Maybe one day there'll be a panel that reviews DNA from all pregnant women in the US to sensibly determine if a child should be born.

You're just dumb. Sorry you can't understand selfishness.

Your reasoning fits with most people who commit suicide. Same with the elderly who want "assisted suicide" because they feel they're a burden to their families. Those people are selfish.

Yep, you're a moron.

Related question, should those handicapped people in your family have killed themselves/been aborted to save their families the burden?

Yep.
Some of the downs kids I've seen are some of the happiest people.

You can't believe they are a blessing AND that they should be aborted.

Classic case of transference. The issue isn't the author. The issue is Dawkins stance. Complete logic fail.

You are correct. And Gene Stallings would tell you right now that John Mark made his life richer than being a burden for him.

This is the logical end if one believes there is no God. Survival of the fittest and the weak be damned.

Try using English to get your point across.

Am I a better person than someone calling for the abortion of all children with DS? Yes.

quote:

when they havent got a clue

What makes you think the people in this thread don't know anything about the "burden" of raising a special needs child?

Incorrect. Being an atheist allows him to have such opinions without worrying about inconsistency of belief.

Look, I appreciate Dawkins for his intellect with regard to a lot of issues, and his writings have helped me clarify certain things in my own world view. That said, I disagree with his premise here, while understanding what he's getting at.

Regardless, I fail to see how him "being an atheist" allows him to not have to worry about inconsistency of belief. Could you explain more what you mean? That seems like a pretty generalized critique.

This is nonsense. I also believe beating your children is wrong. Those that choose to believe there is no right and wrong in the world are cowards.

I believe there is right and wrong, but I do think there are some things that aren't morally absolute. Abortion of a rape baby or a Down syndrome kid I think is a morally dubious one. We may be in disagreement here.
