Well said. I agree with your comments.

I wish threads like this could stay on point and discuss issues rather than devolving into partisan slap fests.

but my guess is that neither the sadistic nutjob in North Korea nor the Ayatollah in Iran has never spent one second discussing Carter's intelligence considering the fact that Carter was long gone before either of them arrived on the scene.

How old are you?

Well, the original linked article is a partisan slap fest, so it has stayed on point.

I disagree with you. Mr. Cheney's opinion article is just that, his opinion.

As I stated in my first post (page 5), no one has strung together a series of thoughts that have discredited what Mr. Cheney wrote. There have been plenty of posts that attack Mr. Cheney as a past leader/man/scholar/etc.

This is where my slap fest comments ring true. Rather than slander the man, I am interested in discussion for/against the points he makes - not his ability/authority to make said points.

One idiot criticizing a bigger idiot.

Dear Mr. Cheney,

This failure known as President Obama was a direct result of your failures. He would not be here if it weren't for you.

PS - This current failure is literally you and Bush 4.0.

The salient point is that Carter was a terrible President. You can have all the degrees in the world, but that doesn't make you fit to be president.

I disagree with you about Carter but I agree with your larger point that intelligence has nothing to do with leadership.

quote:

And anybody who thinks that Cheney is stupid is kidding themselves. Go back and look at interviews with him, or debates, things that are Live, where he's not reading from a teleprompter As far as his flunking out,I don't have his bio in front of me, but that may have been a period in his life, when he was quite the partier. I can't say for sure though No one can deny his intelligence.

I guess you're easily impressed, because his interview and debate performances reinforce my opinion that he's an idiot. I think you're making the mistake of confusing his glibness and avuncular manner with intelligence. Some of the most articulate people in the world are below average in intelligence and some of the most intelligent people in the world are very inarticulate. Unfortunately, our political system puts a premium on people who look and sound the part. IMO, the most valuable characteristics of a President are 1) judgement, 2) leadership and 3) intelligence, in that order. I put charisma far down the list despite the fact that you can't win the White House without it.

quote:

And really, this awe struck admiration of the Ivy League is quite troubling.

I'm not overly impressed with the Ivy League but the fact of the matter is that it's became a nearly de facto prerequisite for reaching the upper echelons of government on both sides of the aisle. Ted Cruz and Wendy Davis are polar opposites froma political standpoint, but the one thing they have in common is Harvard Law School. Why do you think Presidents from both parties go to the Ivy Leagues to pick nominees for the SCOTUS?

Is he suggesting a 7 year old Obama was possibly subject to the draft?

Are you kidding me? Your point, at least I assume it was your point, was that Obama, to his credit, never sought a deferment. I pointed out that there was nothing for him to seek deferment from.

Do you not understand?

Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many.
Well, the word is "rarely", not unprecedented, so I guess he could say something about Obama and Bush could still be worse.

However, if I had any part in invading a country on false premises, I would have probably be living the rest of my life in shame and apologizing every chance I got. This man, along with Bush, made a mistake which cost the lives of thousands of servicemen and up to a million civilians. Now he has the audacity to speak out about what a mess that country is and how it is someone else's fault?

That's drone worthy.
