Problem is the boomers didn't have as many kids and started living longer but refused to change the ages on SS and Medicare. Now you have a demographic time bomb because they wanted to retire young and live for several decades without working. The system was never designed for that and you have fewer younger people to support you.

The Gen Xer's are just now getting into power and I'm happy with a lot of my generation that were raised in the Reagan/Bush I era. Guys like Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and now Neil Gorsuch. Every generation has fleas but Boomers are defined by the Clintons, Bush II and Obama with Trump now as our 4th Boomer President.

God help us with the Millennials, hopefully they grow up. I'm doing all I can with my post Millennial kids to make sure they aren't snowflakes.

True, I won't pretend there aren't young people who aren't entitled. And people use this reality as an excuse, it's not, you still have to earn your keep.

But to think the landscape is the same now as it was then in terms of accessibility and not having to have an education is jsut dishonest and quite frankly, ignorant.

Wrong. Poor young people today have a TV, AC, Car, etc. We didn't. But try again.

So you're saying because young people vote dem, the boomers were doing the right thing to screw up the economy and hand it over to the next generation (ie young people)?

Wrong. The boomers didn't screw the economy. Politicians did and most of them were Dems. I never got to vote on SS, Welfare, Medicaid, etc. If I was given the opportunity I'd have voted against it. But young people today blindly vote Dem because 'they care about people and diversity and niceness."

Yikes, you can't fake that kind of stupid.

I'll be glad to beat the shite out of you on this thread till bedtime, moron. You're easy batting practice.

Boomers could have ended either program or set it up in a way that would be sustainable instead of milking the shite dry and leaving us with trillions in debt

This is where they are at fault. Can't blame them for starting social security because they didn't but they sure didn't do anything to get rid of it.

Though I will say in their defense they were under a lot of pressure from their parents who were telling them how great these programs are and how they needed them.

But the fact remains these social programs are ponzi schemes that are leading to the decline of our nation.

Wrong. Young people are much fatter per age than boomers. Or maybe you think all the 20 year old tubs of lard will trim down when they hit 60.

Republicans have had ample opportunity to reform social security, Medicare, and Medicaid and have done no such thing.

Boomers could get jobs easier.

In the old days, in order to get a job you had to find it first which wasn't easy.

If you didn't have a friend or relative who turned you onto a job that was available, all you could do is look in the want ads for a job you were qualified for and/or walk all over town looking for businesses who had a job opening sign in the window.

Today, you can look for a job over the internet while being stoned out of your head in your parents's basement.

There was less automation, but the biggest issue is they were willing to take jobs and work there way up. They would also do jobs illegals are doing now.

Today many gen-x and millennials will not do jobs they think are below them.

Affirmative Action forced many white college educated heterosexual men into trying to get the menial jobs illegals are doing now but if the boss found out you were over educated for the job then they wouldn't hire you.

I know because that happened to my brother.

He tried to get a job pumping gas but when he told the boss that he had completed 4 years of college, the boss wouldn't hire him because he knew as soon as my brother got a better paying job offer that he would quit his gas pumping job.

You can continue to be an unimpressive partisan hack all night if you like, I'm not going to be around. I imagine I'll do something else with my weekend.

The nature and status of our current economy are a result of a ton of bad decisions on both sides of the aisle. Endless decisions sacrificing long terms economic health and benefits for immediate votes are why we're here.

I'm not ignorant enough to try and blame one party over the other, there's plenty of blame to go around. It's that kind of pragmatic honesty that helps you see things a bit clearer, you should try it sometime.

The unhealthy habits will crush our healthcare system. The 65+ population is going to grow 140% by 2050 and we are only getting more and more unhealthy. The costs will be unreal

Boomers usually only had one person in a household working. The landscape has changed.

You have some good points, but you are missing what they would do to find work. In the 50's, 60's, and 70's they would move to Michigan or other states to find work. It wasn't like they didn't have problems finding jobs.

are you seriously suggesting affirmative action b.s. is better now than it was generations ago?

quote:

He tried to get a job pumping gas but when he told the boss that he had completed 4 years of college, the boss wouldn't hire him because he knew as soon as my brother got a better paying job offer that he would quit his gas pumping job.

and now you get the pumping gas job because that's all the economy has for you, and chances are you don't get a better offer.

look, I'm not saying you didn't work hard. I'm sure you did. I know plenty of boomers who are hard fricking workers. But boomers also inherited probably the best economy in history. Millennials are huge pussies who don't know their heads from their asses, but they are also in a shite economy. They are waiting around expecting to get what their parents and grandparents got and they will never get it. The great depression wasn't that long ago but it seems like everyone around today can't remember it ever happened, and can't fathom that things might one day get shitty in the U.S. I have no idea why everyone thinks things will be sunshine and rainbows forever

Not really. Early BB's, maybe. A LOT of companies began freezing pensions a few years ago....mine included. I got hit there....cost me about $1500 a month.

Wrong. Every time some GOP guy suggested it. Like GWB wanting to put a 5% option into a private retirement fund instead of SS, the Dems and the media shouted that "Republicans want to kill old people and children!!!"

Pensions, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid. Not to mention low cost of education. Must be nice. What are the odds the younger generations will have any of these benefits when we're 60/70? Or are the rest of us just getting stuck with the bills?

This is what your government funded college, unregulated/ignored immigration policy, bad trade deals, social programs that are unsustainable, and fricked up politicians delivered the American people.

You can thank the Progs/Dims for a lot of this BS.
