Or this church to do the same.

All of this is predicated on the notion that there isn't a different set of laws that this police force will be enforcing. If that's the case, it's more of a "dedicated" force than an alternative one. If true, there shouldn't be any issue here and there should be no more concern for covering up crimes as there are from a "secular" police force.

And what better way to protect them than to apply the limitations against the federal government found in the Bill of Rights against the state governments.

Private Policing Isn't a Fantasy

Many people recoil from the idea of policing being done by private, for-profit enterprise. They imagine that such companies, in their attempt to maximize profit, would be even more abusive than government police. But what most fail to realize is that private ‘police’ already exist in America and to a large extent: there are an estimated 3 persons employed in private security for every public cop. These include a wide range of roles and skills, from the night watchman at a construction site to sophisticated cyber security experts ensuring that financial transactions are secure.

Mises.org

The headline doesn't actually match the content of that article.

The 3:1 statistic of paid private security to private cop, doesn't take mention of private security not having the same legal role and privileges of public police.

What position does "the board" have on this? Brief summary is cool.

Hiring, firing, and paying authority over their officers.

And Motown, Briarwood is a good school. I DID NOT intend to imply otherwise. This is a bad idea beyond this particular school/church.

The high school is in unincorporated Shelby County, so the district court in the county seat of that county in Columbiana.

Funny that this topic is brought up, the great Will Grigg passed away. He was foremost an expert on policing and the issue of abuse:

RIP Will Grigg

Will Grigg, full name William Norman Grigg, passed away today after a series of hospitalizations. He was much too young to leave us.

Will was a dedicated voice for liberty, and a prolific writer and blogger on the subjects of police misconduct and police militarization. An archive of the many articles he wrote for LewRockwell.com is here. He also appeared on our Mises Weekends show discussing the growing police state.

Will was a gentle soul but an indomitable spirit. He will be missed.

Sounds like sharia law

Not if they are upholding the laws that are already in place by their community and our nation.

However, it does seem odd they would do this.

As a whole, I agree with you, Foo. But, I also understand the other side. Churches are trying to get people to attend. Let's say someone from the outside rapes a teen aged girl. It might be in the churches best interest to try to keep it quiet, so that the members don't feel threatened and quit coming. It would be a horrible thing to do, but it is possible.

Not if they agreed to uphold the laws and Constitution of the United States. if they tried to enact their own laws, or enforce laws from any other entity...yes. If this group tries to enact their own laws, or uphold any other laws other than those of the Constitution, then they should not be allowed to go forward with this, either.
