People seem to forget that we had stiemsma before Asik. I'm all for getting rid of Asik if we know we can get someone better. But considering who we had before Asik, I'd be worried about letting him walk

By reading this thread, you can really tell who truly understands the game and who is just your fair weather fan that, to their defense, just doesn't get it.

Without Asik, we don't even sniff the playoffs.

Asik frustrated me to no end in the first half last night (and in game one), but he had a great second half. His problem, beyond his complete ineptitude with the ball in (or approaching) his hands, is he can be inconsistent at the things he actually does do well (D and Rebound).

We really don't have any viable alternatives unless Dell pulls some S&T or something out of his arse.

I wouldn't want to pay Asik more than 8-9.5 million per over 3ish years. If its 10...so be it. If its more than that...Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

So you just roll with Ajinca, Ryno and a Dalembert? BTW, looking at Dalembert's declining stats, it looks like he may be ready to fall off a cliff a la John Salmons. You can second guess Demps and ask if he should have traded that pick for Koufos or Mozgov instead, but I don't think there's any turning back at this point short of a hard to predict trade.

agreed, this is like QB's in the NFL. even if your guy is "serviceable", you're going to have to overpay in order to keep what you have.

One of my favorite moments of the night was when Asik put Curry on his arse in the lane. The guy is in there with the expectation that he is going to do certain things, and he generally gets those things done. He does look bad at times when he is doing "other" things. It's a shame he hasn't developed a moderate offensive game. There were times last night when he was in the lane inside of the foul line, and they are still playing several feet off him, just daring him to drive and shoot an 8-foot jumper.

the bad thing is, if he could catch he'd average 15-11

A game changing big costs money. Asik is a role big.

8 guys that are pretty much Asik with some offense, and cost less, and most will be available next year. And this does not include the plethora of young talent that could be had that are still on rookie contracts.
Lopez
Kanter
Koufas
Anderson
Pachulia
Mozgov
Mahinmi
Speights

If Asik played more regularly like he did in the second half last night, i wouldn't mind him. But he doesn't' play like that all the time, which baffles me b/c it's not a skill, it's just effort.

Obviously I don't want to do that. If its that or 11 million for Asik, you have to bite the bullet on Asik.

I just wouldn't like it that much, but there is no alternative.

I would like to think that Dell would have alternatives up his sleeves should Asik get offered something stupid.

I call shenanigans. Lopez and Kanter will likely make at least as much as Asik if not more on their next deal.

Anderson, Pachulia, Mahinmi, Speights, and Mozgov will NOT be available next year. Anderson, Pachulia, and Mahinmi are under contract for one more year, Speights and Mozgov are team options but are on cheap deals and should be retained.

Right. I think people are forgetting two things:

(1) More teams are just choosing to play smaller lineups or just tanking and not signing contracts.

---I think we will see much more interest in Tobias Harris than most center's in the league this off season. I have already read a few rumors that teams are considering offering Tobias freaking Harris a MAX contract.

(2) There are about 12 decent C's to divide up amongst the other teams.

Definitely a buyer's market this off season. Supply might very well be greater than demand this season.

Zach Lowe said this morning he didn't think Middleton staying in Milwaukee was a sure thing. They've said they'd match but Lowe obviously thinks there is a price level they'd be uncomfortable with. We don't have enough cap space to target Middleton, but if someone else did I wonder if Milwaukee would be interested in some sort of S&T that sent us Pachulia and Middleton while they get Asik and some or all of the trade proceeds from Ryno. Asik and say Stauskis for Middleton and Pachulia seems better than Middleton walking.

I feel like they need to send Asik to Saints football camp and just have the camp arms hum basketballs at him for a few weeks.. catch or die, lol

The thought of rolling with a weak 5 makes me uneasy. There are more wings than there are bigs.

I'd jizz in my pants over that, but that seems a bit too good to be true.

And we would be dealing with two players being S&T'd, and I know those type of deals have to be structured in a certain way. So it would be a bit complicated and separated into maybe two deals.

I agree it seems unlikely, but I'd guess if we do go a direction other than Asik it'd have to be something like that, we trade Ryno and Asik and get a center and a wing back.

Where did you see that? Not doubting, just curious.

I don't know if Asik gets much more than ~11M/year, if that. At that price, they should bring him back.

It's an odd thing; they need a legit 5 for the regular season and can survive/thrive despite Asik's flaws, but almost everyone goes small in the playoffs. Asik won't be more than a rotation player in most series. Davis will be the "5" in the playoffs. They need to finally invest in wing players. Very hard to matchup appropriately without flexible wings.
