I'd take Asik over Anderson all day

Exactly

That said, Bogut (and Asik) are criminally underrated. I wish Asik had Bogut's athleticism and basketball awareness, but when you compare their salaries you get what you pay for.

What was it? 20th highest cap hit (which matters to the team, nobody gives a shite about Benson's out of pocket cost) of ALL centers in the league.

Less than:
Jordan Hill (9)
Tiago Splitter (9.25)
Anderson Varejao (9.7)
Kevin Garnett (12)
Nikola Pekovic (12.1)
Nene Hilario (13)
Brook Lopez (15.7)

legitimate centers that are better than asik cost 10mil+.

Asik may have costed us a couple of buckets on the offensive end, but he prevented a whole shite ton of 2nd chance points and layup drills in the 2nd half. We clawed our way back into the game because of his offensive AND defensive rebounding and defense. Monty fricked it up by going Cunningham > Asik to give the defense help on Green, which backfired. I think they grabbed 3 straight offensive boards

I like Ryan Anderson the person. It sucks the player hasn't played up to his expectations, you have to feel for the guy with what's he's been through.

I agree with you 100%. He is an incredible person, I feel bad that his game isn't clicking right now. But I sincerely do hope that at home he kicks arse to give himself some confidence. He really deserves better, maybe the expectations were more than a little unrealistic.

yep

Some on here have related it to Gordon last season. He needed that rough season and a full healthy offseason to get back into form this year. Maybe Anderson just needs the same thing.

Sitting him in such a big moment in a playoff game was an enormously decisive move by Monty, especially since he has been such a big part of the team for as long as he has. I hope Ryno responds at home in Game 3. It's a lot more difficult for the Pels to win when he isn't playing well.

His cap hit this season was 8.3mil. He signed a 3 year 25 mil deal, where the cap hit for each respective year was 8.3mil, but his salaries were 5, 5, 15 mil.

ETA: I wouldn't want to pay more than 10-11 mil

that's the difference between the teams. You would rater remember almost winning vs winning. He is weak and the entire league is aware of that. He is soft too. Later bruh

I agree that Asik has a lot of value that he doesnt get credit for. However, dude gets bitched so much on the court. He is easier to stuff than JJ Barea. About 10 times a game he gets absolutely embarrassed and just looks down at his feet like FML. He cant catch the ball, has zero offense skill sets, has horrible habits (i.e. bringing every put back down to his fricking knees before going back up). I get that he should get financial credit for his height and skill sets, but he should also get discounted for the shite he sucks at. To me he isnt worth more than 8 mil. That isnt enough to keep him. Let him walk.

The problem is twofold. First, people really have no clue about the alternatives. They are in the "anyone has to be better" mindset and if they had been paying attention last year, they'd realize that no, anyone isn't better. We traded for Asik to get his Bird Rights because that is the only way we can get a better than MLE center without freeing up cap space. Are there better options for less money than Asik? Yes, are they readily available to the Pelicans? No.

The 2nd problem is a throwing the baby out with the bathwater situation. His flaws are glaringly obvious, and what he provides is not. There isn't really a stat for "Opponent offense deterred and 2nd chance points prevented." Rebounds = Possessions, people seem to really under value that.

As for the stone hands, Asik has improved his FG% by 5% pre vs. post All Star break. I think a combination of smarter play and getting over a back injury allowed him to reduce his offensive ineffectiveness. 55% FG% isn't great, ideally you'd like it closer to 58% or more, but it's a big improvement from his 49% pre All Star numbers when nearly every game thread turned into an Asik hate fest.

Also stone hands related, it's a weakness, there is no dismissing that, but it's a weakness the team can afford because they are top 10 in turnovers, and were top 5 for most of the year, even with Asik doing his worst to make that number bigger.

If Asik had hands and an offensive game he'd be a 20 mil player.

Id rather pay a 20 mil guy 20 mil than a 8 mil guy 11 mil.

If he was that guy he wouldn't be had for a mid first round pick.

Just wanted to throw this out there: Is there anyone who would consider Kosta Koufous or B. Wright as viable alternatives?

A little younger with similar numbers as Asik this season. I'm an Asik guy, but those guys might go for 5-8 million (possible MLE guys even) instead of 7-10 million.

Hypothetical - If Koufos goes for 6 mil/3-4 years and Asik gets an offer for 9 million 3-4 years, who do you take?

Koufous' numbers say yes, but whenever I've watched him (only against the Pels) he really hasn't impressed me. But he also should cost more than the MLE so he really isn't an option. Picking up Pondexter and Cole really limited our ability to free up cap space short of a trade. I'm not saying I don't want them, they're great additions, they just changed the equation on our paths to alternatives. Without them you could not sign Asik and maybe have enough to get Koufos, now you are limited to the MLE unless you move a big contract.

As for Wright, I can't say much other than he doesn't seem to fit the profile for a job of guy that is supposed to do the dirty work around the rim and take the beating from bigger centers so AD doesn't have to. He's 6'10 210, he has very few starts so I'd assume most of his stats have come against backups, and he's not a good rebounder either.

Between 10-12, probably closer to 12 with the new cap. Would be ecstatic if he re-signs for 10.

Agree with all of that just hard to speculate on value of the bottom range of the Center market this year because it's so deep. Fair range for Koufous could go from 5-10 million dollars in reality, and its likely he either gets paid that big dollar amount or he goes for a steal.

Maybe Dell sees this playoff series and says I want a guy like B. Wright instead of Asik, who knows.

I really don't want to say this, but if Gordon can play 1 or 2 more games in this series like he did last night, it's not unreasonable to think he could dupe some GM and become tradable again.
