Drone

Crazy how it almost touches an outrigger, then takes off out in front when the boat is hauling arse. Sweet piloting skills!

That would be an awesome "add-on" to a chartered offshore trip.

you would have to pay for an extra person to come out with you.

Chartering a 50'+ cabin cruiser on a tuna trip is going to cost upwards of $4,000.
Most people would pay an extra $200 to have their fishing trip filmed with a drone.
The captain would just have to pay one more deckhand to run the drone.

That was pretty bad arse. Never been on a tuna trip like that and always wanted to. That drone can haul arse obviously.

most of the work is editing the video. getting footage is the easy park. analyzing it and clipping it to the correct song is the hard and time consuming part.

and any old deckhand isn't going to make it come out as an awesome video, plus would be a liability to wreck a $2,000 helicopter with another $1,000 camera attached. can't fly in the rain/highwinds, rough seas would make for a bitch landing it.

Enjoyed the video! And actually, I was more fascinated by the offshore oil platform. I've never seen an oil platform live and in person. That thing is HUGE. I'm curious about that flame on the end of the pipe, though. Why are they burning something off? If that is some kind of natural gas, why don't they capture it and sell it instead of burning it?
TIA!

The flame is the "flare".

All rigs and most oil production sites have a flare running 24hrs a day. It is burning the excess gas off coming up the pipe.

I have seen some mean arse flares when a rig is taking a kick of gas.

Nice video!

On the flare... You can't always capture "everything", so you just have to burn it off sometimes. No one likes to flare and the size varies by the situation.

They are used in most all petro-chemical plants to varying degrees. Permits are issued to flare X amount of gas for the given process. Fines are sometimes paid if X is exceeded...

Was that on your 1st flight when you "landed" it on the truck?
Now that would have made a great clip!

Eta: hurry up!

I've never been charter fishing. The guy pulling line and the guy with the gaf are deckhands?
