The flame is the "flare".

All rigs and most oil production sites have a flare running 24hrs a day. It is burning the excess gas off coming up the pipe.

I have seen some mean arse flares when a rig is taking a kick of gas.

correct that it is a flare but not not for production platforms in the canyon

There are a few reasons to flare: unloading a well that was previously shut-in for any reason, flaring because there is a problem with the gas pipeline or gas facilities on shore which allows for the oil production to remain, flaring to work on gas processing equipment on the facility like a compressor, etc.

The flaring regulations have become very strict in the past years.

That platform is Thunder Horse, which is both a drilling rig and a production platform. They were likely unloading a well as I mentioned before or bringing a new well online

The drone is a DJI Phantom with a Gopro mounted to a Gimbal.

I want but I'd end up sinking it.

Also, why the hell wouldn't that captain take the damn boat out of gear when they were trying to gaff that fish. Got damn.

yeah. You better know what you're doing for sure and also keep an eye out for the battery life. They have a gps enabled return to base feature but that shite wouldn't do any good on a moving vessel.

Yep. The whole setup is about $1K with camera. Not bad, but not something I'm getting anytime soon. Seems like it would be hard to keep it pointed in the proper direction for filming.

the drone will hold a heading and altitude on its own. All you would have to control is the gimbal mount for the camera. And these FPV glasses make it foolproof.

FPV glasses sees what the camera sees in real time.

I'm pretty sure on nascars, if he just turns loose, it stops and holds at "whatever it's doing".

Was that on your 1st flight when you "landed" it on the truck?

We don't care to talk about the first landing

Here is my starter drone. Works great. Fpv is sent back to my phone out to about 800'. I'm having a blast with it right now.

It has altitude and GPS lock. Flight time is only 10 minutes though

This is what I got & get 20-30 minutes out of a battery. Can record or take pics to a sim card.
•The Phantom 2 Vision+ features a 14 MP camera specially with integrated 3-axis gimbal designed specifically for use with the Quadcopter.
•The Phantom 2 Vision+ flight control system has two computer-assisted flight modes for you to choose from.
•If the Quadcopter loses the signal from the controller for any reason the "return to home" feature will initialize.
•IOC is designed to help make flying more intuitive.
•The DJI Vision App for iOS and Android smartphones provides many functions apart from just FPV monitoring.

Friends of mine got one for Christmas. Got it caught in a tree that very same day and had to cut the tree down to get it back.

I'll just share some info. Don't take off when you have 4 dogs that is trying to catch it. Got it up away from dogs & the Mrs said to land it in back of the truck. Figured the dogs would scratch my truck so I decided to land it on my shed. Getting it close to the edge of the shed a gust of wind slammed it into the shed. Crash Only broke 2 blades

At least you didn't get it caught in a tree all tangled up in spanish moss! Just think of the possibilities for destroying hornet nests with that drone... mini flame thrower.

I don't want the glasses unless Costa makes them.

I had no idea that they make them with GPS lock and all that shite. My little $50 drone sucks.
