My mom just moved onto a piece of property given to her by her sister. Their houses are less than 1000 feet apart. The cable company in the area says they can't run cable that far (bullshite I know but they won't budge). What are her options (if any) for using her sister's wifi?

Too far for cat 5, he will have to use fiber. He can try a point to point wireless bridge, but there must be a clear line of sight to each location

IF and only IF you have a clear line of site...

We do point to point wireless links all the time. I've never heard of ez bridge.

I would use some Ubiquiti equipment. You don't necessarily need a super clean line of site at 1000'. For max performance it should be clear LoS though.

A couple of Nanobridges will give you better than 100 Mbps link: LINK

Those will actually link at 10+ miles with clean LoS.

At 1000' you'd probably be fine with some NanoStations (smaller footprint): LINK

325 ft. maximum for ethernet. Best solution would be to bury fiber. You can get a point-to-point radio transceiver but the equipment will probably cost as much as the fiber which is unbeatable for speed and reliability.

Could you just run the cable instead?

My house is over 1000' off the road and can't get cable run there either.

I use 2 Ubiquiti Nanostation M4's that are about 600' apart. (I have the cable modem set up in a shed on my property).

Works extremely well... I think it was about $150 for the pair.

Totally agree with PTP line of site bridge. ~$400 and you are in business. Plenty out there.

Anyone try working a deal with the cable company? I know for a fact they will run it if you agree to cover a portion of the cost.

They told her it would cost $5,000, basically trying to talk her out if it. This is in East Feliciana parish so it's pretty rural. I'm thinking they're just being lazy and don't want to mess with it.

I ordered 2 Ubiquiti Nanostations. They get great reviews on Amazon. Thanks for the input guys. Will update when I install them.

Similar situation, parents live next door, in a neighborhood. My wifi will reach a small portion of their house. What would be the best option to extend it farther into their house? I have moved the router as close as possible to their house already.

A wireless repeater type device is what you need

Hook in flooded rg-11 onto an amplified splitter (have them check the line for noise first), run it to her house, bury the line, add another modem to existing account.

I do this shite for work all the damn time

I agree, we use Ubiquiti across the board...mostly Nano M5's and Pico stations

ETA - the worst thing for signal isnt metal or plastic, it's water...specifically water in trees, people, etc. 99% of the time I get a bad reception isnt LOS, it's fricking trees

I also have a small collection of the AP Outdoor+ : these will create their own mesh network virtually automatically if you set them up properly...it's pretty easy, if I can figure it out, you probably can too...because I suck at this shite

The Ubiquiti stuff posted above you costs less than just 1000' of fiber. Then you have to bury it. All told, running fiber would probably cost several times as much as wireless, and it would be pointless since the wireless solution is probably capable of saturating the internet connection.

I mean is fiber really necessary with a clean signal through amplified rg11? I don't think so.
