Picobrew: Automated Homebrew System

Picobrew
Watched a couple videos last night. I got to admit, this is kind of cool, and would be perfect for brewing during the week. Basically you just push a button and 4 hours later you have beer.
Makes 2.5 gallons.
At a price tag of $1999, i'd never get one, that and i like the entire process of brewing. This seems like it takes away some of the control for brewing. The specs do say that the system is designed for 70-80% efficiency, and that multiple dry hopping is possible. Just curious how good of a beer could you make with this thing. Seems like it would have limitations.

A few years (and many pints of beer) later, the first PicoBrew Zymatic® was born. The Zymatic improves the precision, repeatability, and overall quality of the beer-brewing experience. It allows you to slightly modify each individual batch, to fine tune your beer to your individual taste. Now every home brewer can truly focus on the art of flavor and style with each batch of beer.

Have a buddy who has one in Prairieville. Very experienced brewer who makes great beer. He loves the thing so far.

If I had $2k to spend on brewing, you better believe it'd be going towards an all-electric rig that can brew at minimum 10 gallons.
That said, I could see the appeal of this to some people. I've read some reviews and it apparently makes some decent beer.

It would be nice to come home, push a button and by the time i go to sleep the beer is ready to ferment.
However, i don't like the fact that you have to ferment inside a keg. I'd rather use a carboy so i could see the fermentation happening.

I think you could probably ferment in whatever you want.
This thing is just a wort maker.
I have to say that this hardly interests me at all though. Very cool design and I'm sure it's well thought out and put together and I appreciate that but it's not for me at this moment in my life.

The guy mentioned above who has one is a friend and club mate. One of our other guys was/is on teh brink of buying one. He is a fan of recipe development and honing the recipe in, not as much of the killing an entire morning/afternoon to brew some. he is confident he can do the act of brewing but wanted to focus on recipes. He is also working a shite ton due to the plant strikes and has money he and his wife want to use irresponsibly

Please let oil prices climb back up, I miss this so much...

We're all thinking the same thing around here too for the most part.
ETA: Checked out the website and if I had the money to blow on this I'd do it right and have about 8 different short kegs of different beer going at one time. That would be fun I guess.
What's the chilling process like for this after the brew?

Pretty sure he just chills the keg itself. Ice bath/ sit in a fridge. It's been like 4 months since I got the walk through and I was 4 beers deep at the time.

Yeah, that'd be pretty easy now that I think of it. stick it in your pointless old 10 gallon igloo cooler full of icewater.

I would rather put that 2k towards a computerized brew system.
