They're currently in D.C. correct?

Eta: when does the foundation building break ground?

Since its for athletics I'm pretty sure the money to operate it would come from the athletic department.

Ceremonial groundbreaking is Friday. But this building is for the benefit of academic endeavors.

Most of the states 4 year Universities need to converted to 2 year Junior Colleges. Keep LSU, Tulane and La.Tech as 4 year. Everything else needs to go JC.

"Southwest Louisiana Junior College at Lafayette"

We Plejarens like the sound of that.

That was part of the question ... if it was only for athletes.

See, this is where I'm a little pissed. When I give to TAF each year I like to allocate the funds to a specific project, not just a slush fund for general wants. I'm not a big donor, but still in all, I'm offended by this.

DING DING DING...it pisses me off that the ignorance of the general populous is the reason for not doing something that will benefit the university.

IF the state politicians weren't such cowards we could shut down some of these schools that exist solely to pay patronage to their friends, and would never exist in a free market.

You DO realize Tulane is a private university that doesn't receive state funds right?

It's going to get built. My guess is this is part of a plan from the athletics Department. Even though its funded through donations, the ad likely wants to avoid the image of affluence during a time of instability on the academic side of things. Lay low and keep the ire off of you and break ground when the outrage cools

How much in State funds does LSU receive, and per student how does that compare to other institutions? If we are talking who would exist in a free market.

It's not as if they project won't begin soon. They are just going to delay it until LSU's position with the 2016 budget is solidified. It's purely an optics play showing that the Athletic Department and Athletic Foundation are behind President Alexander's efforts to protect LSU.

I'm okay with cutting state funding to athletic budgets.

If the schools can't support them on their own, they should reconsider having athletic programs.
