Due to proposed state budget cuts to higher education per Aleva?
Money was raised privately.
"the current climate of austerity surrounding our university compels us to move in a more deliberate manner", said Aleva. "will have to wait and gauge how the budget cuts affect the university".
Again, private money.
Why doesn't Jindal use the $45 million we flush down the toilet every year supplementing the athletic departments of the public universities around the state to offset the cuts? If you have never researched this it is truly "disgusting" how much the taxpayers bail out ULL, ULM, LaTech, Grambling, Southern, Nicholls, McNeese, Southeastern, Northwestern, etc.
P.S. LSU is self-sufficient.

So frick the other state universities and those students because LSU wants to have a building to make smoothies?

I'm an LSU fan too, but calm down.

I do believe it is a smoke screen to gather support for LSU. People won't react to these budget cuts unless it affects LSU football. Unfortunate but true

You wouldn't be saying that if you understood how much recruits value these facilities. Just wait when LSU starts losing recruits to other schools and then maybe you'll care.

So you agree that the taxpayers should bail out the other universities athletic departments by $45 million every year?

This a "face-saving" move in my opinion.

The money is all privately raised so it's not in jeopardy of being cut, but LSU Athletics doesn't want to look like they are getting special treatment by building a "smoothie king for athletes" while the rest of the University is struggling to keep funding.

Pretty respectful in my mind.

i dont know if it's face-saving as much as it is posturing to the public to put pressure on session to not cut back so much on higher ed.

it's just political 101.

This is stupid. The money has been raised from people who donated for that purpose. Build the damn thing. What are we going to do, let the money sit there drawing zero interest until the next Governor takes office? We can be our own worst enemy sometimes.

Sorry bout it. Meanwhile in Lafayette, our athletics department is putting out results rather than excuses. Take notes Joe.

They really need to cut several of the state universities or combine them with each other by region.

A state the size of Louisiana should not have as many four year univiversities as we do. There is no reason why northern Louisiana should have 5 four year universities within like an hour of each other.

State budget issues...

I see why the Board of Trustees for the University of Alabama cut UAB football. More $ for Tuscaloosa. They get it. They know the economic impact Alabama football has on the state economy. No such understanding for LSU. If you're not moving forward and just standing still, you're losing ground.

Jindal the worst
Alleva among the worst

... but for reasons totally unrelated to this.

and thats putting it mildly. It's amazing how one guy can ruin a state so much as Jindal.

Exactly my point. Then get off the taxpayer tits to supplement your athletic department.
