It's pretty sad. He's stopped the state from receiving free federal Obama Care money and now he's stripping the budget for higher education. I Voted for the guy and he's done nothing but use the state as a pawn some can make a whitehouse run. He wants to be able to appeal to the right wingers and say "I never raised taxes once, and I didn't take a DIME of Obamacare money!" Regardless of how bad it is for the state.

In a few years you'll be gloating on here about how you are glad you voted for someone who didn't turn into an Obamacare lapdog, and worked to keep this state and its people as far away from total fed control as possible. Obama HATES La. right now... and I think that's a beautiful thing, b/c it means we aint pandering to the great satan and his muslim-puppet cohorts. No, Obama and the dems are ruining this country... Jindal is just trying to hold em off till people like you decide to open their eyes and get rid of this cancer in the White House.

Typical of ULLLLLL to brag bout building a new facility when its whole athletic dept is subsidized by the State ( i.e. tax payers ).

Also, remember the last time LA turned down free federal funding because it didn't want "federal control of the state"? Our roads are still the worst in the country because the state refused to raise the drinking age and missed out on federal road fuming back in the early 1990s

Certainly not trying to speak for everybody, but I would rather live down a dirt road as a free man, rather than a newly paved driveway as a slave or a mouse begging for a slice of cheese from a governmental master.

But I guess in today's world, some people are so used to taking handouts for blind loyalty to the feds that The Bill of Rights is sold down the river. Jindal isn't perfect, but La is in much better shape overall by keeping it's jaw set against the greater evil.

Common Core, gross welfare, economic terrorism by our own govt trying to shut down oil & gas in this state, state coffers being robbed dry by federal pundits posing as "governors", federally-funded racial discord sown by officials who are backed by democratic federal govt... How quick we overlook and forgive offenses by this fed administration (and past ones) when a little "cheese" is waved in front of our faces.

Dude everything Jindal has done while in office has been self serving to his White House run. It will say a lot about what he did for Louisiana when he loses the primary here (if his campaign even lasts that long). He can swim in a pool of AIDS needles. Saying Jindal isn't perfect is like saying Siberia is chilly in the winter. Don't let your hate for Obama blind you to how bad Jindal has fricked Louisiana.

1. I don't agree with how Jindal has handled higher ed, but there is so much blame to go around, going back decades to the pols and the people who elected/tolerated and elect/tolerate what has happened to higher ed

2. This may or may not be a ploy. Will wait and see.

3. Realistically the idea of shutting other universities is DOA, although that's not saying it's a bad idea

This sucks. Personally there is a decent chance i'm moving in the next year should these cuts impact my family the way it has been told. I'm just one, but I'm not shy to say losing many like me (working, taxpaying, under 40) will not help BR or LA.

OMG could you be any more of a complete loon?

I really hope you are twelve and just regurgitating the misunderstood views of your misguided parents.

Reading posts like this makes my brain hurt.

receiving free federal Obama Care money

IIRC it was free Medicaid money. Guess what, that money isn't indefinite. What happens to the state once the "free federal money" runs out? Answer: the state is on the hook.

stupid. The money has been raised from people who donated for that purpose. Build the damn thing. What are we going to do, let the money sit there drawing zero interest until the next Governor takes office? We can be our own worst enemy sometimes.

This.

Holding off just delays the inevitable, disrespects the donors by making this a political move, and raises the probability of increased future costs because that's the nature of construction delays.

This is textbook symbolism over substance.

Joe has zero balls as usual. The money was privately raised. Its pretty simple to tell people bitching about it that the money was raised privately. Only someone that is stupid would struggle to understand the idea that the athletic department isn't taking funds from the University side. Joe needs to stand up and make it clear how much LSU athletics actually gives back to the school and then break ground on this building.

Exactly. No other school in the SEC would do this.

The bama AD would pull his pants down and tell the media and critics to kiss his fricking arse. I could understand delaying the ground breaking if it was tax payer money. This isn't the case though and joe as usual isn't man enough to make the correct decision. The LSU AD should continue rolling on business as usual as long as funds are coming from donors. They could kick back more money to the school if they wanted, but don't delay building something we already raised funds for. Joe just spit in the donors face.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of this center? Is it for athletes only? Seriously have no clue and am just wondering.

Also, the money to BUILD it has been donated but the money to OPERATE it will come from where? Another honest question as I have no clue.

Of course they don't. I highly doubt this was solely Alleva's plan

Exactly. It's going to get built...and in short order. He's (and reality not just Alleva but Alexander, BoS members, etc.) using this opportunity to better LSU's academic units in the upcoming battle at the Capitol.
