Don't get caught up in the relationships with the other staff, stay away from going for drinks all the time at end of shift,

This is the exact advice I'd give to someone entering the service industry. Especially if you're married. It's a totally different lifestyle than you're used to and it's very easy to get sucked in.

Good advice. I am pretty sure I will be ok in this arena, but pride goeth before a fall, so I hear you.

Indeed. Never had a problem with this one.

And in the early days, I may be a rung under the dishwasher.

It'll be fun. I miss the service industry all the time. I would have no problem going back to it. I think my parents would die since they paid for my education, though

You won't have a problem with this because you don't come off as a hot-tempered person, but I find the BEST way to deal with a-hole customers is to be overly nice and passive aggressive. Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing a customer realize how awful they're being and get really embarrassed about it. If I'm super sweet to them and then apologize for the bad day it seems they're having.. beet red. They get so ashamed.

I think the proper term is "real attorney" for those who actually enter the courtroom.

But seriously, as an old guy entering the hospitality biz, the most important thing you need is decent footwear. Arch support is key. Dansko makes supporting, nonslip shoes (not just clogs)....if you can't handle that look, get some damn good orthotics. Your feet (and knees and back) will huuurrrttt.

On the location of the Bonna Bella Waterfront Grill.

New owners. They are renovating and staffing now.

The name as I understand it is WYLD Dock Bar.

Amazing location. I'm excited because it is a place I love to go and always thought it could be so much more.

Good luck to you. If I make it back to Savannah anytime soon, I'll have to check it out.

One of my friends is an attorney and still moonlights bar tending for special events. Apparently it's good money. Best of luck!

Good luck!

2 years ago I went back to school after 10 years of self employment. during this time i decided to get a part time job as a bartender. Even though I had never worked in a restaurant before I was able to score a bartending job at a high end Baton Rouge restaurant. I did it for about 3 months and hated it.
I decided to spend the remaining year and a half concentrating on school.

Congrats on the new drug hookups.

But seriously, if it's something you want to do, enjoy it. I'd hate to go back into the food service industry. Waited in college and couldn't stand it.

And resolved myself to bein a minority, silent investor in endeavors I know have interest.

Keep us posted.... Or contact those u know privately. Interested to hear your opines.

Thank you to all for indulging this selfish thread and your interest.

And thank you for the encouragement, advice, warnings and even the naysaying!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the interaction here, and despite near anonymity, you folks have had an influence on me and this decision to branch out into something unusual for someone like me.

Honestly, I'd never done this if I hadn't gotten involved on this board and become exposed to so many ideas on food, drink, bars, restaurants and the like.

I'm also in the process of working on establishing LSU-Savannah, so maybe WYLD will become a place for LSU folks to gather.
