The Advocate had a short article on LSU's #2 ranked gymnastic victory over #9 Auburn on page 9 in Saturday's edition. Yet , there was a large photo on the front page for opening day of baseball, a huge article on page 1 of the sports page and several photos related to the baseball team's win over unranked Kansas. This was a relatively meaningless baseball game in a 56 game baseball schedule.

It seems the Advocate has fallen prey to the almost cult like following of this baseball program. Don't get me wrong, I support any team in any sport wearing the purple and gold and representing LSU. But it gets a bit ridiculous to see the 128 days until baseball countdown, and the continuous commentary about WALK UP SONGS!!! And lets not forget the inane commentary about visitors showers, the batting gloves, 20 posts about what channel the game can be viewed on, and the endless Fire Javi comments.

The gymnastics program has been to the Super Six multiple times this decade and knocked on the door to the national championship room last year. This year they have a very realistic chance to kick that door in.

This team is a classy group of athletes with incredible skills who always represent LSU in the best possible way. They deserve better than the Advocate presented yesterday.

Have you attended a gymnastics meet? Do you have any concept of the skill level involved?

There's skill involved in golf too, and I don't give a frick about that either.

There's almost zero chance the paper sent anybody to cover a road meet so they probably just summed up the article of LSUsports.

Print media is a business. They're going to cover what the buying public wants to read.

Oh my. It's open weekend of Lsu baseball which means way more than even basketball down here and you are complaining about that?

It's basically like putting a fat girl on cover of GQ. That's what you wanted. A fat girl

Upvote. LSU gymnastics deserves more coverage because the readership interest is there. An average of 5,633 fans attended each LSU home meet in the 2014 season which makes it worthy of more coverage. Men's basketball by comparison is 8910. And it's getting more popular by the day at LSU based on how ridiculously talented the team is and how fun the meets are.

Still ridiculous. I would say the same thing if the coverage if the feature was the opening basketball game vs Nicholls State.

You might want to check out a few photos of the gymnastics team.

Things most people in LA care about - baseball and football

Things most people in LA don't give a shite about - your feelings and gymnastics

This might be one of the most delusional post of 2015 and on TD that is saying a lot. Congrats.

So you're wanting the advocate and TD to dedicate more prime space to a sport that doesn't draw that much interest?

Both are businesses and need to generate dollars to stay open so they are going to give the most attention to the sports that draw readers.

Not hard to understand.

It's great LSU has a great gymnastics program, but let's not act like it's a sport that is going to draw a lot of attention no matter what.

I somewhat follow gymnastics so I know what they look like. But your little pea brain apparently couldn't understand what I was saying. Did not say gymnastics is fat girls

So gymnastics at it's best still draws significantly less attention than a basketball team that has been down for years and is in a rebuilding phase?

No argument here, but OP has to use perspective. It's opening weekend of the 2nd most popular sport at LSU. Plus, it was a road meet. Last time that I checked we are building them one hell of a practice facility on prime real estate on campus.

Not really sure where the butt hurt of the OP is coming from. Bitching about a newspapers coverage on this specific weekend was ill timed. IMO.

And compared to a baseball team that's set attendance records for nearly 20 years straight.

You guys are factually wrong. The interest IS there for better coverage. Not football coverage. Not baseball/Basketball coverage. But definitely on par with women's basketball which only draws 3053 which is way less than gymnastics. The interest IS there and with a great demographic, the parents of affluent teen girls and the affluent teen girls themselves who buy a lot of stuff . Based strictly on attendance and interest in the community it deserves more coverage. Props to Channel 2 for getting that. Sure it's not page one stuff but it deserves strong coverage.

Most of the world doesn't read The Advocate for their sports news either.
