I agree that there is a need for marketing, but I stand by the fact that the university is heading in that direction. The top notch practice facility that costs $$$$ is a huge commitment to the sport. In addition, the Tiger Spotters is a booster club that emails a newsletter to you a couple times a week letting you know what's going on.
I'm not sure what you guys expect the university to do about the newspaper not covering a sport. Maybe the OP should write a letter to the paper? As stated previously, the newspaper will focus on what they perceive to be their core reader.

Thank you and all of the others with the ad hominen attacks.
You missed my point. I am not against baseball getting its props, just asking for a little proportionality.
I doubt The Advocate's circulation would go up or down dependent upon the extent of coverage provided baseball. My point was simply that the gymnastics team deserved better than a short article on page 9. Even a nice feature on page 2 or 3 with a photo or two would be OK. Take a look at the stories covered on pages2-8.

An average of 5,633 fans attended each LSU home meet in the 2014 season
Do they include support staff and concessions vendors in that figure?

Ya and the mother of all sports. Most of the world don't even know what baseball is.
You're wrong. Baseball is like the 6th or 7th most popular sport in the world and Gymnastics doesn't crack the top 10. Been that way for a long time.

I think LSU does a great job with gymnastics. Really, really good. I'm just saying that public interest, and the specific purchase-power demographic of that interest, as demonstrated by attendance figures indicates that there IS a demand for better coverage. At least on par with women's basketball, where the attendance demographic skews to a much less-desirable older demographic.
To suggest it needs to rival the top three men's sports is ridiculous on every level.

What in the frick... It is the 7th most popular sport in the world. Has an estimate of 500 million fans.

Nope. Not at all what you said. You said basicslly that it's BS that baseball is on front cover and it's meaningless since its first of 56 games. Nice try though

If you want to "win" this thread you need to post some action shots of the meets. Start with Reagan Courville on a dismount.

Old men read papers and love to say they are ticket holders to LSU babseball.......then actually never ever show up.

I'd agree with both of your last two post.

The university does a good job of promoting the sport. My complaint was with the Advocate burying the article of a top ten gymnastics matchup behind other less noteworthy reports and excessive coverage of baseball at this stage of the season.
I still believe the Advocate sports department is the best I have seen, but they dropped the ball this time. I would not have a problem with this level of baseball coverage come late May.

She's definitely not your average female gymnast. She's attractive and very lady like. Props to KRob.

Jesse Jordan could be a model and there are several other team members who are very attractive.

Very few people care about gymnastics.
It's crazy to expect gymnastics to get the same attention as baseball.
In other words...that meaningless baseball game was still MUCH more important than the gymnastics event.

This may come as a surprise to you, but baseball is more popular than gymnastics, and newspapers try to print stories and headlines that will be popular.
Posted on 2/15/15 at 3:45 pm to tigersbb
The only time people care somewhat about gymnastics is for a week every 4 years during the Olympics. Sorry but that's reality.
