Sorry but the paper is not going to send someone to cover a road gymnastics meet. The only story they are going to print will be the release from LSU.

Even the fricking Gumps value gymnastics (perennial national powerhouse). So a worldwide sport is not interesting enough for the mouthbreathers on this board? Well the rest of the nation is evolving to appreciate global and sophisticated athletic endeavors, let's us LSU tiger fans stay in the stone age, shall we?

I dont believe you read... anything. Or looked at the pics of the practice facilities JUST for gymnastics.

Show me the papers from Georgia (an actual perennial national powerhouse in gymnastics) mentioning their team's away meet that is prior to page.

All your arguments are ridiculous as is the OP.

Pretty sure track and field has a bigger gripe with dozens of National Championships and not much paper coverage.

We should be ashamed though. This whole time we should have only worried about where our preferred sports were covered in the Advocates sports page

I haven't seen this much anger since the football team won a game. It's gymnastics....they're not going to send someone to that match.

Since you are the fifth person to make this point, let the record show I never claimed they should have a reporter present. They obtained enough information from LSU sports information to prepare an article.

Again, my point is the gymnastics team is #2 in the country competing with the # 9 team in a key SEC match. It deserved better coverage than page 9, especially given the inordinate coverage provide the baseball team playing a virtually meaningless opener vs an unranked opponent.

I have no connection to anyone with LSU gymnastics. I have granddaughter who is very good and hopefully may one day be good enough to be a Tiger gymnast. WE attend the meets and I have come to have a better appreciation for the sport.

I just think given the stature the program has achieved in the past decade its coverage should not be relegated to the back of the sports section. Not asking for front page coverage just a little more respect.

Its amazing to see the level that many on this board will go to denigrate women's sports. Likely those without daughters or granddaughters.

Now it's because it's a woman's sport? That's BS because I have seen this board be very supportive of woman's sports including soccer, softball, basketball, etc.

It's just that Gymnastics, no matter how good they may be, doesn't draw a lot of interest right now. That may change but you aren't really helping it any with this thread.

This is how I know you've never been to a match. It's a good crowd that regularly shows up to watch.

Maybe there should be a gymnastics board as everyone knows that this sport is one of the highlights of the Olympics. Rated #2 in the nation is a great honor and our girls should be applauded, along with the fine coaching staff and the parents who place their daughters in LSU's care, attending most meets.

I am not related to any of the gymnasts but did attend the 2013 national championships at UCLA and had a blast. Our spirit rocked Pauley Pavilion and I got to meet DD Breaux, a wonderful person, and her staff. All the LSU families and fans were a class act as we all cheered in tiger fashion. As in many sports, our spirit chanting L-S-U made a lasting impression on all the teams present at the championships, and on me. I am very proud of their accomplishments and they deserve all the notoriety they are receiving.

I believe the record will reflect the gymnastics meets are drawing larger crowds than softball, womens basketball, soccer and volleyball.

In fact the average meet probably has more live bodies in the seats than the average baseball game. Yes, I know how many season tickets are sold, but what is the actual attendance? you may be surprised. In fact the meets may actually draw bigger crowds than men's basketball, which is my favorite.

Why is page 9 so disrespectful?

Maybe I should start a thread. I'm disappointed that it took 10 pages before I could read about a local soccer kid. I love soccer and it deserves respect! He has a chance to move to England and play at an academy! Page 10! What?! Page 10!? This is his future and he is good! The advocate should show more respect!

Or maybe I should be offended that Men's Tennis dominated Rice but the report was so short and on page 12. Page 12! Tennis!

And don't even get me started on fishing. I have NEVER seen it earlier than the last page. They won't even put it on page 9. This is fishing! It feeds people!

Or maybe I can be happy that I can read about it all in the paper and not bitch about its placement

Ok. Let's do this.

PMAC has 13215 seats. Per an earlier poster, gymnastics averaged 5633 last season. That's 7582 empty seats a meet or on average 42.63% full.

Soccer has 2197 seats and according to LSU sports facility information on the site, average 1294 per match. That's 903 empty seats or 58.90% full.

Softball has a capacity of 2489 and listed average of 1210. 1279 empty and 48.61% full.

Sand volleyball isn't worth calculating because they don't even have a facility on campus (yet).

And I don't care to look up more because the point is, the PMAC has 8529 seats more than soccer and softball combined. Nearly 3x the capacity.

However, both Soccer and Softball achieve greater percentage of the available capacity.

I'm ignoring the baseball comments because I'm not sure you go to the games. Sure, weekday games will be pretty light, but weekends still get somewhat close to equaling actual with paid. Plus, they actually turn a profit
