Not at all a hate thread. I had spent some time this week with a representive from some place called Stine lumber and he was from out there. We were all talking O&G and affects on our territories and he was saying Lake Charles was seeing the biggest boom in their history. Billions in investment, lots of new jobs and such.

That's great news for the state. I guess I just hadn't paid attention. The only thing I know about Lake Charles, is the interstate slows down, there is a very high bridge, and the Darrel's Special is worth the side trip.

But bravo Lake Chuck, good to see that area doing well.

The single largest investment ever by a foreign company on US soil is happening in Lake Charles/Sulphur

There are some large multi-year projects started and several more coming. We aren't in the "boom" phase yet but we are right on the cusp.

i think the total (mythical?) sum of the Sasol projects are the largest private investment of capital in US history

I think most wise folks are in the "I'll believe it when I see it" mode, but there are many around the area who are quite literally freaking out about the coming "boom."

i mean even if they just do the ethane cracker, it's like $8B and that's going forward right now and is a multi-year project

that alone is a huge boom. add in the stuff going down in Cameron right now and it's major

the GTL is the huge arse one and that's very likely a go but won't really get started for years. if that does go forward,

So many dump trucks and cops on Houston River Rd and Old Spanish Trail. Also, all the new power lines they are putting in just for that thing.

I thought Sasol put that on hold due to plunge in oil prices?

one part of that sum is already going forward and is happening no matter what. the other (massive) project is still a go but just isn't 100% now

that other project isn't support to start for like 5 years or something, regardless.

lake charles isn't lafayette. we refine petro so the lower prices may actually lead to an increase in demand here. now the super huge project is going to be dependent on natural gas prices, but that's years down the road

that's good news. What it sounded like to me was kinda like you said. There are projects in the works that will attract more projects and soon big changes.

He was saying taxis from Houston are operating out there.

If you're an able-bodied male, and you complain about not being able to find a job in LC right now or in the next several years, you're just FoS.

They've been doing this since LDL was built and Delta Downs expanded though. The Golden Nugget recently opened and probably increased more demands for traffic from Houston.

That's the best part about it. Though I say the same thing about here in NOLA.
