Stine Lumber was a big deal back in the 80's. I did maintenance on their computer systems back then. They had stores all over south LA. Then Home Depot and Lowes took over.

It was John's Barn. It's been gone for a good many years now. Building has been torn down.

Stine lumber is still a big deal if you're a contractor especially considering Home Depot and Lowe's sell junk lumber and dont keep in stock what Stine's does. Order a lam beam or some trusses from HD or Lowe's and see how long it takes you to get them then call Stine's.

Stine's has great commercial support where as HD and Lowe's really concentrate on the average consumer and couldn't care less about contractors.

Even Builders Sav-Mor sells better lumber and keeps more in stock than HD and Lowe's.

John's Barn was a great late night place. The sausage and crackers they sold there were awesome (never tried it sober, but perfect drunk food).

This. I lived within walking distance of it during a time. It was where everyone used to go after the clubs closed. Walked out of there with the sun up more than once. Holes in the floor, crooked pool table, great bloody mary's and sausage with crackers and mustard. That place prevented many hangovers during its time.

Pfft, now. Real estate here is ridiculous. We passed a house in Westlake the other day that was up for rent. Built in the 70's, hasn't been updated since. A decent size though. About 2,000 sq ft. I was think the rent would be around 900-1100, just based on the size. They wanted $2,000 a month! With a $2,000 deposit. I almost wet myself.
