My sister n law and friends will be in New Orleans Friday thru next Thursday for the first time. I am looking for some good fine dining places they should be able to get into on short notice. Thanks in advance.

Go to OpenTable.com and type in the date/time you're looking for.

Just typing in 6pm on Friday night, there are lots of good options: Bayona, Atchafalaya, Borgne, Cafe Amelie, Coquette, etc. etc.

Should be fairly wide open. It's a week before Mardi Gras really starts cranking up.

Places on or near St. Charles might be tough to reach.
ETA: I lie, first parade that week is not until Friday. You're all good.

I'd try Herbsaint, Clancy's, and Gautreau's.

Seems like peeps outside of NOLA are more familiar with Amelie than those from NOLA. Arse-excluded.

Great spot.

Agree on checking on Open Table and/or calling the restaurant. If a restaurant they want isn't available on one night, it may be on another. Smaller restaurants like Gautreau's, for example, might be more difficult to get the day and time you'd like.

They could probably walk in at Galatoire's on a Tuesday or Wednesday night and if these are first timers, they might enjoy that experience for dinner. If they're available for lunch, a lunch shouldn't be too difficult right now, except for on a Friday.

Commander's
August
R'evolution

Those are a few to try.

Loaded up with another doberge king cake yesterday. I also grabbed a pig in the blanket made with italian sausage and gruyere.

Their baker is amazing, and they have a top 5 courtyard in the city.

If they're staying in the GD, they should do Commander's.

Cafe Amelie is indeed a fantastic patio. Food is mediocre at best though; standard boring brunch fare made to turn tables of tourists over quickly.

I can't give you restaurant advice, but I saw your post in the OT, but I like the people here better.

I'd have them go to Pat O's even though it is "touristy". It's a cool place, and I'd go there if I lived there. Especially if the weather is nice.

Some things are touristy because they are there. Some things are touristy because they are worth going to. I think there are lots of the latter in NOLA, like Pat O's, WWII Museum, Cafe Du Monde, Zoo...

If someone comes to Savannah, I am going to take them to River Street even if it is touristy because it's a cool place to hang out. Just my 2 cents.

p.s. I am organizing LSU Savannah. I will get you an invite to our organizational meeting.

The food there is solid, but not spectacular. The drinks are better. The setting is the best part, and it makes for a great time.

On a nice day it is a tough tough place to beat.

The main point I was trying to make is that someone from BR brought up Amelie, and that Arse is the only person from NOLA who regularly seems to go there on this board. Granted, if I lived in BR, Amelie would be the exact type of spot I'd look for because BR has nothing like it.

Well, to be fair, I was only listing the restaurants starting with A-C with available reservations on OpenTable that I know aren't shite

That it's a good spot that gets overlooked by locals.

Or it's just a place that nobody here post about because it's nothing special. However it can make Arse's thread because he will post pictures of anything. Some waffle fries, strawberry milk, and a wendys cheeseburger = the best thread ever.

One suggestion is to ask the professional chef in the group if there are any restaurants or chefs s/he in which she is particularly interested and then check those for reservations.
