see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life, and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.

This whole verse from Keep On Rockin' In the Free World still gives me chills.

Neil always had a way of getting to the bottom of humanity, cutting through all the false bravado we put on as a species; this line can resonate with everyone here. (also listen to Don't Be Denied);

And this is just another example of why people loveNeil, and why he is arguably the greatest of all time; he was always COOL in the classic sense. Throughout the years, he did things that people despised and immediately cast him away for, but he always stayed true to himself despite what even the most critical say, and that is what makes any one human cool, if you ask me

Other than his hammerin´ over others when jammin´ in a big celeb on stage jam session, Neil Young´s OK with me....

Neil young put on one of the best jazz fest shows I have ever seen. Don't remember which year that was.

Love him. Only seen him twice - once at the Saenger almost 20 years ago. It was just him, about 10 guitars, a banjo, a piano and an organ. Second was a couple years ago at Voodoo Fest with Crazy Horse.

Currently, I think Greendale is my favorite album, and the movie is fricking awesome.

Neil really did do things his own way. Record company wanted "this sound" and Neil would give them something completely different. He always stayed true to himself.

I've said this a number of times and have others say it as well. That show that day was something special.

09 brah....I watched him smash a guitar on the Acura stage while I leisurely viewed from the top of my f150 by the fence on Verna street. Good times being poor.

Agreed. I have seen quite a bit of live music and that was hands down the best concert I have seen.

his side-kick guitar buddy Poncho said Keep on Rockin in the Free World as they were watching the Ayatollah being carried to his grave on Young's tour bus. Young wrote it right after he heard him say that out loud. He eventually gave half writing credit to his buddy for all royalties since he came up with the title.

Neil saw the kid in the garbage and didn't help? This is right up there with Phil Collins witnessing a drowning.

Neil's last great rocker.

"Cold wind ripping down the alley at dawn
And the morning paper flies
Dead man lying by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes

Don't let it bring you down"........

Always loved his tunes and lyrics!!

Eddie Vedder riffs off a Pearl Jam tune into this Neil Young verse on one of their live songs. Maybe even one of their hits that dissolves into "w.m.a."?
