Spin Off: What Do You Miss More? Southern Belle Sammiches or Hubig's Pies?

I gotta say, I miss the chicken salad sandwich and tuna sandwiches (also Coach John Brady's personal favorite!) from Southern Belle.
The products that replaced Southern Belle are awful.
Never really cared for Hubig's pies.

I enjoyed hubigs...was always afraid of those prepacked sandwiches and knew friends that got sick off them, not to mention the, if I'm not mistaken, closure due very unsanitary work wnvironments.

Southern Belle was my wife's first job when she was in 10th grade. She told me at the time to never ever eat those sandwiches.

I loved Hubig's pies. Those gas station sandwiches are NASTY. Shoot, Subway is a million times better than that

Yep. The man who owned Southern Belle used really cheap meats to make those sandwiches. He would get the meat on discount because it was close to the expiration date and use it for the packaged store sandwiches. Your best bet eating from there was the catered food because it was fresh and delivered the day of.
I bout one of those SB sandwiches on lunch break about 10 years ago and the meat and mayo had a green tint. I told my wife and she laughed and said I told you so.

I can't say I've had a Southern Belle sandwich. I'm not too sure I'd want to as well. I'm really finicky about chicken salad and tuna sandwiches and I don't think I could take down a packaged, gas station version.
As for Hubig's...meh. I never thought they were that good anyways. I'd always reach for a Moon Pie over Hubig's.

The egg salad was seriously legit. And the bread was always so soft.

As much as I like a chocolate Hubigs, I've gotta go Southern Belle Sandwiches. Not from the gas station, but straight from the factory.

I am choosing to ignore all of the stories that have come out about the sanitary conditions at the Southern Belle production facility.

New Orleans used to have Mrs. Drake's Sandwiches. My favorite was the Ham and Potato Salad. They also went out of business about 1993 after sanitation problems. The tuna salad was also good.
I think the fact that the sandwiches sat around for a couple of days in the fridge made them taste better. (No, I'm not talking about spoiled sandwiches.) I guess the tastes had a chance to meld a bit.

I guess what you don't know really doesn't kill you.
