Negative. Hawaii, California, and New Mexico would have other than European pluralities.

I was exaggerating a bit while being ethnocentric

Concerning blacks in LA, I think it's actually about 38%

Well we got most of our Germans before German unification, so Germany never had much "influence" here.

This is not true, the largest ten years of German immigration occurred at the end and after unification. They were a major political force from after the Civil War right up to fastest assimilation that has ever happened in history during WWI. They had newspapers, German schools, and all sorts of cultural institutions. Then in one fell swoop the Federal and State governments cracked down on German and like the obedient people they are they complied and became Americans.

So inside the south there's a higher % of English ancestory? Have you read actually that book and is it worth reading?
The South was overwhelmingly "Scotch-Irish" in the 1800s. "Cracker Culture" by Grady McWhiney

Terrible, terrible graph though... "American"??? are you kidding me?

Makes perfect sense. All those states are mostly populated by people whose ancestors immigrated from other states in the Union and not from elsewhere or brought there as slaves.

Yes I have "read actually that book"

It's a great book

It's not about demographics though (that line I quoted was just a remark in passing). It's a general history of the US through the eyes of the distinguished English born critic Cooke (he hosted Masterpiece Theatre for years). You can find it at most libraries. It's easy to read, with lotsa BIG pitchers.

America was also a TV series, but good luck finding that

Yeah, but can we not go back more than a generation or two? The only people of "American" ancestry should be descendants of true natives, as in "indians."

No....I meant they lump all of Africa into one bucket yet give individual recognition to the European countries.

It's just due to lack of records I'm sure. Think about the means by which slaves arrived here compared to Europeans.

There was no (eta:with few exceptions) national identity among Africans until after colonization and in some countries it remains to be seen if there is still any. At best there would have been tribal identification, but as our African brothers on this site will point out the white devils messed that up.

Perhaps that's why the red states list themselves as American. Indian tribes.
